Is the new game a remaster of the very first one?

i remember playing when i was a very little kid, im only 22 years old. i want to know so i can get the old one and try it out before the new one comes out

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a remaster of the original Age of Empires (released in 1997) with The Rise of Rome Expansion.

The original CD version may not run on modern computers without some modifications. It can be done, but I haven’t tried it myself.

If you have what constitutes a “legit” install, you can use Upatch for RoR, which allows full HD play and balance most similar to the DE. There will be a classic mode in the DE that will play/look very similar

Try to find in Moddb the Upatch. I play regularly.

So not based on Age of Empires 2 ? :frowning:

Of course not, it’s the 20th anniversary of Age of Empires, not Age of Empires II. I don’t know what were you exactly expecting, when we already have the Age of Empires II HD Edition on Steam, with those amazing new expansions coming out every year…

iv been playing 0 a.d. lately, really fun multiplayer lolol but check out this unit pathing when i click on the archers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mA1ViSYUSc

note to self, never put melee units in a formation
