Italian info

But that’s also what I like about the game, it can gives you very modern civilizations and more archaic ones, so everyone can choose what he likes more.

Of course want that the Italians on aoe3 would be more than just the renaissance, but I think that it will be the case.

Although I have to say, I didn’t liked the Mexico civ…

The US was fine, even though I strongly dislike some of their features, but the Mexico was a bit too much gimmick and meme mechanics…

I do hope that it won’t be the case for Italians.

Most likely it is a mix between Renaissance units and risorgimento units…

These must really be the focus but I hope that the two centuries between these points of Italian history are not completely neglected: even if the Papal State declined, for example, it was very important and could both influence and be influenced by the great Catholic empires.

I don’t think that they’ll be completely neglected, since Italy wasn’t completely useless.

The venetians for example kept battling the ottomans during all the 1600 and 1700, and even won some important battles. Their army was considered to be on pair with the ottomans.

The kingdom of savoy too was quite important as a regional power, but that’s the problem, Italy in thay period was a regional power, not a global power like other European nations, and for sure it didn’t influence the world like it did during the renaissance anymore.

Still, there is enough to make a civ about it even for that period…

Malta fought hardly against Otomans to keep the Mediterranean safe. That episode inspired the Act I of the campaigns

Italy during the modern age:

  1. Exploration Age (1400-1550) (Renaissance Italy) (here is the archaics units of the Late Middle Ages)

  2. Commerce Age (1550-1700) (Italy of the 30 Years’ War) (Spanish rule, siege of Malta and Battle of Lepanto) (here is the Spanish and religious units )

  3. Fortress Age (1700-1770) (Habsburg and Illuminist Italy) (here is the Germans units and the economic boom)

  4. Industrial Age (1770-1820) (Napoleonic Italy) (here is the French units and the Carbonari)

  5. Imperial Age (1820-1870) (Risorgimento Italy until the final unification) (here is the exclusive italians units,Young Italy, the Sardinian bersaglieri and the red shirts of Garibaldi)…

What the hell? What historical reference is this based on?

Italy - Venice - Croatia - Hungary I guess.

But Hungary is for Malta, not for Italy…

Is there any particular history for some religious military knight order in Hungary that I don’t know of?

The Protestant German (Brandenburg) branch of the Order of Malta comprises seventeen commandries in Germany, one each in Austria, Finland, France, Hungary, and Switzerland, and a global commandry with subcommandries in twelve other countries (Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Italy, Namibia, Poland, South Africa, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Venezuela)

Mafia did not exist yet in the time range of AOE3. Perhaps a brigant?

1865 was the first written mention of them as Mafia and that’s solidly within the time period. They also had a “code of silence” so they would have existed for some time undetected before that.

The mafia slowly originated after the unification of Italy in about the mid 1800 as a result of policies introduced by the savoy without considering the context of the south and the dismantle of the bourbon army and industry.

Still, considering that this a serious problem that still plague Italy nowadays, I liked a lot that they did include them.

I’m pretty sure the Italian Bombard would probably be replacing the Heavy Cannon in which that unit is trained at the Factory instead of the Heavy Cannon.

I think the Sicilian Mafioso would be the perfect Outlaw Unit for this game. Could be a unique Outlaw unit for Italians and Maltese civs.

There could be new Sicilian units based on Pistolero and Renegado. USA civ could have a unique card that adds the possibility of hiring the Sicilian Mafia (including the Tommy Gun Mafioso - I know it’s the interwar years, but cool and cult).

Please no…

This isn’t some far away far west, is something that still paglue the land…

Just give them generic outlaws, the civ is more focused in the renaissance and risorgimento anyway, the mafia came later on.
