maybe because it’s a game from 20 years ago?
Sorry, I was 6 when AOK was released and I didnt have internet to complain nor history knowledge.
“Congratulations, our game succeeded! Here’s some brown civs we were too afraid to make at first. Oh and have another helping of white civs who invaded them centuries after our game ends. We mustn’t forget to over represent Europe.”
How is that even relevant?
There were plenty of others
Read the comments above, they already refute the argument of “there was no connection with other cultures”
10$ is pretty cheap for a 2-3 civs expansion, the main complaint for me at least is that we have to wait for something that should’ve been in the base game anyways. THATS why I think we should’ve added Mali and Aztec in the base
hahahha, how is that relevant? dude… In 20 years the knowledge about Mesoamerican cultures has grown to gigantic levels, and the contempt and marginalization that was had towards them has been reduced considerably
Did you read when I said that one of the major disappointing points is that the devs are aware that how History is seem and studied changed? American and African studies have grown a lot since 90’s, that’s why “no one” complaint at AOK release and now we’re yelling here
Ah yes, that’s why we got 2 mesoamerican civs a whole whopping 1 year later, because the knowledge of MesoAmerican cultures increased by so much during that time.
Here’s how I see it. When you think Medieval and Middle Ages, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? For me, it is Knights and Castles that is typically European, so I completely understand why they would want to focus around Europe.
I was 20-years-old in 1999. I complained then, and I will complain until it’s fixed. This series deserves better.
the way both civilizations (Mayans and Aztecs) are represented in AOE II is horrible, anyway you go back to the same, they were not included in the base game
Other things that come to mind is that this is the era trade really started to kick off and Mali actually had a very substantial amount of gold that was traded to Europe and the Middle East, also one of the Malian kings was the richest man alive at the time that’s pretty significant.
Another thing that comes to mind is sword fighting, and do you think the Europeans had the most advanced swords? The most advanced swords in Europe were made by the English, but the most advanced swords in the world were made by the Japanese. Katanas were very advanced for the time. That’s why if japan at least is in the game I’ll be happy, and there still is one last not confirmed civ
So first you say it because people didn’t know much about American cultures, then you say that you didn’t have the history knowledge because you were too young(which infers that you would’ve complained because you would have studied American cultures deeply enough to want them in the game) then you go back to your first statement?
Unless you want the game to be pushed back, then it isn’t going to be fixed. Boycott the game if you feel that way
They are still in it. If they were so prejudiced back then why would they add 2 of them?
For you maybe, not for me
Except Katanas were used by Samurai and weren’t their main weapon. Also, point out where I said anything that Europeans were the only cultures that were important or made advancements
Plus they were made pretty late in the medieval period, 1400s
I’ve seen how language in this forum can change games. I’ll counsel myself about which battles to avoid and which hills to die on. I’ll die on this hill.
You never said they were the only important, but given that you want mostly euro civs you must think that they were one of the most Important. Either that or you don’t care at all about history,
But In reality Mali was richer than any kingdom in Europe
And no European sword could match the Japanese katana, side arm or not that’s significant
It’s not like there were not good studies about amercian peoples, these studies didn’t have as much visibility as they have now - which still is not enough, as we can see here in many posts at the forum.
You are going back to the same thing that I already explained, it seems that you do not even bother to read what we write to you, I will not enter that absurd loop.
Point out where I said this
So we add civs based on how rich they are? Interesting…
I never said they could??
Fair enough.
Figured you would say that
Why imaginary to put English vs Mongols/Chinese. King Edward interacted with the Mongols in the Holy Land (Il Khan)…
