Complain against the performance of Jaguar Warrior or Aztecs in general is pretty common nowadays. The opposition is also strong as Aztecs is still a very strong civ in Arabia for the top 20 players. But at least most agrees that JW is underperforming.
There have been tons of proposal on JW in past 1 year or so. My observation on the problem is that, JW performance is not justified by their 30 gold cost. Infantries are usually a late game unit as they cost low on gold. In that situation, 30 gold JW over 20 gold Aztecs Champion is hard to justify.
So my proposal is change JW cost 60f/30g → 75f/15g. Or 70f/20g.
It will be harder to train JW In castle age but that’s fine. There is not enough infantry play in Castle Age anyway. But in Imperial, Aztecs player can train JW more comfortably. And their cost efficiency over Champion will also be improved.
I like your suggestion. I was thinking along similar lines to encourage the Urumi since it is a glass cannon and needs to be spammed to have any impact, otherwise they just die before they reach the enemy. Also, I think Teutonic Knight could use a cost adjustment.
I disagree because they will be almost a trash units, spammable at late game with the only utility of cleaning some hallebardiers. I am not telling it’s useless but it’s surely unfun.
Infantry civs are already not very “micro oriented”, with this change, it will be more boring to play.
I’d prefer the idea of someone several months ago suggesting they get extra attack with kills to force the player to micro and keep his JW alives.
But thats’ the core of the issue, their wayy slow speed makaes them just unviable as UU, any melee unit faster than them will simply ignore them adn ranged UUs mock TKs so harsh, I mean their speed had to be buffed 2 times and still hardly see good action.
