So since the bug reporting part of these forums have effectively been abandoned, and since the developers mostly pay attention to this segment of the forums, I wanted to get this out as early as possible.
From the trailer of the Sultans Ascend, we see many Byzantine MAA and Japanese Lancers duking it out.
Play it frame by frame if you must.
What you can notice if you play it slowly is that the Japanese Lancers are holding their swords backwards when swinging, landing their hits with the dull end of the blade. Now, it is possible that the perspective is giving me the wrong impression and that it looks good in another angle. But, we haven’t been given much here, and this does somewhat look like the default top-down angle.
I am hoping that pointing this out early-ish will get it fixed.
