Not sure using AOE3 as a great example, since it is the AOE game that a lot of AOE players do not like. A big appeal of AOE4 was in many ways it being similarish to AOE2 compared to all of the things in AOE3.
I mean it does put the point across, as there are similarities. So it is a good example even if people donât like it.
People didnât like Age of Empires 3 for similar reasons though as now, it is not AoE2 or a near copy. Same as Age of Empires Online, which was bashed for also different reasons (artstyle being one). Even though it was a fantastic game in terms of gameplay.
Sorry, Iâm not sure I follow. Are you suggesting that in discussing the design of a civ in the most recent game in the Age of Empires franchise it is not helpful to consider the design of a civ in an earlier game in the same franchise?
Iâm fairly sure that we wonât see any Dota 2 type heroes running around on the battlefield ever in AoE4, again I donât understand where this worry comes from exactly? How can you believe itâll be something that drastic?
I donât know if we can be assured of ANYTHING until we see gamplay. And i have relicâs present body of work giving me pause.
Thatâs all very well and how it should be for everyone around here, wait for official information and game-play reveal + trying it out for yourself to form a real opinion.
All opinions are real!! Some opinions are more substantive than others, sure. But when it comes to fear and worry; those emotions often conjure on the basis of less than FINDING OUT FOR YOURSELF.
We do NOT want to find out for ourselves and be RIGHT about our concerns; that would be a catastrophic letdown!!
At the end of the day all you as a person can do is to provide with constructive feedback, on things that you worry about in advance about certain things, however ultimately the only way to find out truly how it feels is to try it out for yourself when it goes live.
Thatâs all anyone can do and hope for the best. I rather have developers who dare to try something new even if it turns out to be bad because this is how the RTS genre can continue to involve and be refreshing while introducing new players to an already unpopular genre in todayâs gaming world.
Worst thing that can happen is these ideas for variant civilizations fail and they wonât do that for the next expansion.
Best outcome would be that this becomes a success and something they can continue to evolve over time while keeping the roots and core of what makes an age of empires game just that.
Worst isnât just it fails? Worse is this deracinating idea further erodes the communityâs confidence in relic! And if the balance is unplayable? Then we the players canât even just dodge-que it without penalty!!!
Basically youâre automatically assuming the worst outcome just because the team maybe will make a mistake with the Jeanne Dâarc civilization while ignoring all other positive content that is coming with the same expansion. What a great mindset you seem to have here!
someone didnât play japan ig, seems somewhat similar to diamyos and shogun
iâm already laughing when angry forumers will discover that Japan in aoe4 is going to use heroâs mechanics for their unique units
Lol even though i personally hated aoe3 Japan as a whole AND for a significant time japan gamplay devolved into sneaking behind enemy lines and secretly spamming units and shipmentsâŠ
Aoe3 japan design wasnât centered around thr progression/utilization of your shogun and alike.
No. Basically Iâm only considering the worse outcome that would have a catastrophic fallout? Anything less than premium success is moot; inconsequential. There is no fear or worry associated with if these heroes are merely a flop but do not overly overshadow the rest of the content. And i never assume it will fail, nor that it failing MUST INDEED MEAN THE WORST.
But if it does fail??? I will not be surprised with any degree of backlash.
Are you speculating? Or you knows something???
hence why i specifically said somewhat similar, which means on the surface level, in reality jeanne is more reminiscent of warcraft 3 to me, but aoe3 japan looks like the closest thing to it functionally
I agree the way th diamyo and shogun were effectively central to japan gameplay jeanne will be that AND then some.
Since keeping to the basic spirit of a winning formula can be a positive thing, why introduce âcivilizationsâ like âJeanne DâArcâ and âZhu Xiâ?
Itâs an even bigger and bizarre departure from ALL classic AoE titles than AoE3âs card system ever was.
Whatâs bad about variant civs? I just found out about this a little bit ago.
Long story short, people are upset at the names of the civ (like Zhu Xiâs Legacy or Jeanne Dâarc) since they feel them not fitting for a civ (personâs name and a legacy).
Also after Jeanne was revealed the civ, people are upset at how it revolves heavily around a hero unit.
And thereâs a group upset at how itâs not historically accurate (Zhu xi is alt-history and Jeanne is a person who only existed in the imperial age of the timeline)
