A really interesting episode of Xboxtwo by Jez Corden and he corroborate the recent rumors on next Age of empires title and also something info about the new StarCraft game, a third persone shooter: according to Jez who has seen a gameplay video, It looks Amazing and It could remind Space marine.

About Age of empires and XBOX’s efforts on Real time strategy Games.

i don’t know a great deal but i will say this " i think it’s being developed on Unreal Engine because one of the big issues they had with Age Of Empires 4, from what i heard, was Relic’s Engine and this engine and development pipeline was very difficult for them to work with and to adapt to the Age of empires, what people expect from Age of Empires. So they (World’s Edge) are moving to something more proprietary built on Unreal Engine though. Something more custom and things like that. i don’t know who’s building it but at least the bones are being made by World’s Edge Studios. I would presume they’re going to partner with another developer on it".

Again

""Age of Empires remains one of Microsoft’s most prolifics IPs and they’ve really cornered that niche, the whikw real tielme Strategy that it doesn’t have the same popularity that it did back in the day. But as Xbox moves deeper into PC gaming i do think like Age of Empires and games like it are definitely going to be a Major part of their purview.

And another thing i’ll say by the ways, is that they are interested in also bringing StarCraft back as an RTS altough the next StarCraft i expect will be the third person shooter wich i’ve actually seen gameplay footage of the next StarCraft and it looks stunning. if you enjoy games like Space Marine , the StarCraft fans are going to gave a lo look forward to. But they want to bring back StarCraft as an RTS as well.

Microsoft obviously wants to continue cornering the RTS audience.

Age of Empires is still a big deal for Microsoft and it’s going to be back in a big way".

I would take rumours with a big pinch of salt. It could well end up being true!

But it also might not be.

Yes of course, but for sure we know that World’s Edge is working on new RTS titles

But i didn’t think that Essence was to difficult to adapt to Age of Empires.

I don’t know if It true but some user posted this on su reddit RTS answering to Jez’s leaks

“From what i heard from people who worked on AOE4 the engine really was a nightmare, esp. the maps where the engine was optimised for static map design and AOE is more about semi random design. If you know the code you can make a new map in minutes in something like AOE3, obviously need to test and bug fix etc. but a basic map is easy to make in AOE3 from what i have been told. In AOE4 you need to basically go through several sub menus etc. just to add another group of deer to the game, they had to basically reinvent the sudo-random nature to make the game work.”

And also this seems more than a coincidence

So, the rumor is just you for what its worth.

All of these articles come from the litany of threads you’ve made across reddit. It’s actually affected AI algorithms to the point of generating a hallucination, and since games journalists have little to no credibility and seem to take AI at face value these days
people just say, well there’s a rumor.

I would be excited to see more than that. But the more of these discussions posts you make, especially without hard evidence, you’re just adding to the buzz and kind of manifesting a data point because of it. This is known as ‘Conversational Priming’ or ‘Social Proof’.

At the moment the evidence remains a job listing for a principal engineer with Unreal Engine experience. We have yet to understand the connection between that listing and a potential future product, which may not even be a new age of empires.

For example, the new beta preferences could very well be for an AoE mobile PC port. If what I’ve understood about the port is correct, it likely runs on Unreal engine. Ergo, the events being discussed point towards that.

The Xbox Developer Direct has a very specific lineup planned, it’s an hour long and each segment takes roughly 15 minutes. We know 3 segments are confirmed (forza, fable, a new IP from gamefreak). I guess we’ll see on Jan 22nd, but it’s a rather dubious assumption given the circumstances.

Two different positions in 2025, one in 2024 and World’s Edge Engine director’s profile on LinkedIn which reported Unannounced triple AAA titles in Unreal Engine. These are not leaks or rumors.

One of these titles could be halo wars 3 for what we know at the Moment but the job listing were referred to Age of Empires.

Jez Corden Is not a Simply journalist. Jez’s directory of Windows Central and he has legit contacts a inside Xbox. He simply confirmed these rumors.

He is an Executive Editor for the website. He has sources within the industry, and writes articles based off of his observations and interviews with those sources. The publication itself is independent, he is definitively a journalist.

Prime difference being, he writes articles and approves them himself, since he is the editor as well as author. Who is his fact checker?

The big take-away I have from reading other articles written by him is that he frequently makes unsubstantiated conjecture about what is happening and has had to retract several statements.

Like, we’ll find out, but he never confirmed the rumors as you said. He repeated them and seems to be making a guess. I don’t know why you are conflating what he said with a confirmation.

Without evidence, it has the same weight as “trust me bro”

He said “from what i Heard". He probably found some confirmatotions or asked for more info to his inside sources.

“ i don’t know who’s building it but at least the bones are being made by World’s Edge Studio”.

That’s a confemation to me. He could has simply to Say : i didn’t hear nothing about AOE in Unreal Engine”.

And sometimes he said that about other rumors. (I didn’t hear nothing).

Sometimes he wrong, especially when he posted his speculation on Twitter.

And he also said ‘ there are “strong rumors" on next AOE in Unreal Engine. When he said this on Windows Central It means he had some confermation by his sources.

He could, but that wouldn’t generate traffic.

I don’t know the guy. I recognise the name. I provided a link I found to other peoples’ opinions on him. He could be right in this case, or he could be exaggerating.

Either way, it isn’t direct evidence of anything. As Medic already said, the only proof we have of any speculative development are the job postings. That’s it.

(and if you don’t have the hires, the work hasn’t started yet in any way that would require those hires to be onboarded - if you don’t have a principal, you’re definitely not starting a new project unless somebody is temporarily plugging the hole - risky to do to such a key role during development)
