As the Role of Urumis is diminishing in the game.
But we have a better named card now : TEAM Kalari. and others.
Pretext of what I have in my mind.
- A “Kalari” is a school where the martial art of “Kalaripayattu” is taught.
- “Urumis” are the flexible sword, and the highest level weapon in a Kalari.
So what I propose is :
- To get a “kalari” which is similar to a dojo. Kalari can train normal troops + Urumis at a reasonable rate. The temple can have reasearch to affect that.
Feel free to pour in your thoughts.

I really like this idea. I play with the idea of using Urumi sometimes, but it’s a fairly significant card investment to do it and it all comes late for a melee infantry unit. While they are strong, they’re also rather squishy for 2-pop front-line melee units. AoE3 just isn’t a game where you want to micro those units in and out of combat trying to take advantage of the out-of-combat regen they get and keep them around longer. The snare mechanic makes that all but impossible. If they’re to be viable, you really need to be able to bring them in a bit faster.
Now, the catch with this solution is that it’s like a factory. It’s like getting free villagers, so balancing it requires some attention, similar to the dojo(s) you can get with Japan. How fast should they spawn? How much villager equivalent should such a card/building be worth? Should the card be merged with the one that enables the Mansabdar so you can get full use out of the urumis? Do we make the kalari available in Age 3 or 4?
I think there’s probably a bit of play testing necessary to answer some of these, but I think the core idea is worth considering. I don’t think they’re nearly as strong as the Sipahi which is HC-only for a reason.

Maybe the indians could get an industrial age “Kalari” card (rename the team card) allowing to train urumis in the barrack as a standard unit.

urumi were a lot better before every musket unit was 4.5 speed

Well thats a funky idea, but ppl like the way Urumis are hardly obtainable.
So I just kept it that way, and only suggest to add a
“Kalari” Wagon card.
Kalari Ashram will look very unique among Indian buildings.

Yes this will introduce more of the beautiful architechture as well.

I would consider adding a factory/kalari building via Age 3-4 card. I don’t think they need to be trainable at the barracks. None of the Asian civs does unit replacement. Replacing the rajput with the urumi isn’t something that India needs, IMO, nor is doubling up on melee infantry. They use elephants for tanking.

to maybe put some meat on this idea the Dojo spawns 3 samurais every 154 seconds so about 3.7 res/sec
With the dojo tech it reduces the train time by 20% so it becomes 4.6 res/sec
Urumis cost 220 res so taking that we could do a 3 urumi spawn every 178 seconds
However, taking into account that the urumi cost is not that meaningful, I think 3 urumis every 160 seconds is a decent number.
For an upgrade, instead of spawning faster, I think it might be better to increase the number spawn to say 4 . Another option is we can add on a mansabdar urumi to every spawn, which is great value but keeps the numbers small and vulnerable.
