Kindly consider releasing classic 2002 AoM on GOG

Now that we have the definitive edition of Age of Mythology, it will be also very appreciated if 2002 original game (with 2003 Titans Expansion) could be released on GOG. It has almost 17K votes on community wishlist https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/age_of_mythology_1

Many remasters and remakes follow the pattern such that original is also kept available for comparison, historical, or nostalgic reasons. It can be argued that Extended Edition is basically the same version, but in reality it’s not (I can elaborate on that, but I’m sure community is well aware). GOG releases of original classic games are greatly welcomed by gamers and get substantial amount of new purchases, player activity, and even drive interest for new editions. Some notable examples of GOG releases are: Diablo 1, classic Tomb Raider titles, Resident Evil.

Original AoM doesn’t even need any substantial amount of developer work to be re-released, as it runs perfectly well on modern Windows 10 and 11 (with some modifications which again community is well aware of). Online button can just be removed, as now Voobly service acts as a great - and de facto official - multiplayer service, where high-rank tournaments are hosted regularly.

I know this suggestion is a long shot, but maybe just maybe it might get on the table of today’s “Age of” franchise management if players show enough interest.

+1 from me. I’d love to have at least the classic versions of all Age games released on GOG

I agree. The remasters are great but being able to play the original games with a minimum set of changes, mostly allowing for high display resolutions like Blizzard did with the original release of Warcraft III, would be awesome.

Oh that would be great, would love to play the non EE version of AOM for sure.

I would love to replay the older games where things aren’t as broken in EE.

I don’t think they’ll put it in, considering that you already have the EE on Steam… you leave out TotD and it’s the AoM of a lifetime, except for the graphical improvements here and there…

I think havng the original version of AoE 1 on GoG is essential, because AoE DE bears practically no resemblance to AoE 1, doesn’t capture its feeling, and in a lot of ways is much inferior to it. It’s tragic. I really want to play AoE 1 again. And AoE DE isn’t it.

Most likely they will do like EA and release it on Steam and make a classic collection: AoE 1 HD, AoE 2 HD, AoM EE and AoE 3 CC… and then separately you have the 25th anniversary collection with the DE, 4 and Retold replacing AoM EE…
