Korea Team Bonus (Villager +2 Line of Sight) - Nomad Maps

The latest change to the Korean civilization’s team bonus, where all allied villagers gain +2 line of sight, has made it extremely strong and unbalanced on nomad-style maps. On these maps, the team with Koreans can usually collect many more sheep and boars and can explore up to 80% of the map quickly, while the opposing team often doesn’t even reach 40%. Koreans were already a strong civ on this kind of map, but this bonus now makes the entire team unbalanced — to the point where teams of equal skill and rating will rarely be able to win against a team benefiting from this bonus.

The suggestion is that this bonus should remain only as a civilization bonus for Koreans themselves, and no longer as a team bonus, in order to rebalance the civ on these types of maps.

yeah honestly its my least favourite change of this previous patch notes. Dont know why they made it back into a team bonus insteaad of keeping it as a civ bonus. if you want stats, its the 2nd best civ on tg nomad after dravidians last i checked.

Nothing compared to Hunnic Horse (A free fast scout to gain free animals and steal it from everyone)…

yeah that also needs to be removed. kinda forgot about it since the horse isnt that strong in normal nomad and mainly op in land locked nomads

Maybe make the horse unable to convert herdables?

+1 (+2) would have been enough

What about the team bonus that reveal the location of all TCs. It’s also very useful on nomad. You already know from the start if you can fast castle or fast feudal + army. You can scoot a large part of the map around you with cheaps without losing it.

I agree that the line of sight bonus isn’t ideal as a team bonus, but none of the Koreans’ other bonuses would work as a team bonus either – all of them would have some overly powerful synergy with some civs’ other bonuses.

They could restore a version of the old bonus – i.e. rocket carts and mangonels -1 minimum range – but this bonus was rarely useful and a bit of a double-edged sword, so I wouldn’t want that personally.

I think the line of sight bonus should at least require a town centre. It would still be useful on nomad maps, but not as game-changing as it is now. I think it was really intended as a defensive bonus rather than a scouting bonus.

To me, it would have made more sense to simply reduce the Huns’ wood penalty on nomad maps. I’m sure it could be tied to the nomad resources command in the map scripts, that gives bonus resources for building TCs.

I was kind of surprised they added it, as Koreans were already a good Nomad and TG Nomad civ. It’s better than the Vietnamese bonus on the map I would say.

This is strong in 1v1 situation or against enemy near the huns in TG, and he can still run under the tc and lost the sc. The problem with korea bonus is the early advantage to everyone in the team. If you try to play land nomad, african clearing or even nomad, the team with korea will have at least 70% more food from animals before they need to farm compared to the other team.
