Latest Update 19.6313 makes Major Gods and Cultures (Civilizations) softcoded instead of hardcoded. We can now make new Major Gods and new Civilizations as modpacks

Hello there, i want to reach out to other modders. Seeing the latest update 19.6313 per today 24 june, has me immensely amazed.

In the modding section of the update is amazing news written. I haven’t seen anyone talk about it, then me and some friends shared some thoughts about it. Thus i came to the conclusion to make a post on it.
Maybe some of you know me as Nick_The_Hun from AoM as a scenario designer for AoM. I’m almost an enthusiast for modpacks, although that hasn’t been my main thing in Age of Mythology.

These are the latest addings that are blowing my mind:

  1. Added support for Additive God IDs.
    • This means that major_gods_mods.xml files can now additively add new Major Gods.
    • Defining new Major Gods will now work when you reference them in AnimXML files. For example, if you define a Zeus2 Major God and add tags to the Major God Statue AnimXMLs to swap to a different statue in the logic, that will now work.
    • Other behaviors that rely on unique Major God IDs should also work.
    • Due to the type of change, there may be edge cases or instabilities that have not been handled. If you encounter issues where it does not function correctly, please report these through the game’s normal bug-reporting forums.
  2. Added support for Additive Culture IDs.
    • This means that a culture_mods.xml file can additively mod new Cultures.
    • Modded cultures will appear after existing core game Cultures when using the God Picker.
    • Cultures added in this way should support most of the behaviors you would expect. Similar to the additive God IDs, please report any issues you encounter with additively introducing cultures.

This means that Major Gods and Cultures (Civilizations) are now Softcoded though XML, instead of Hardcoded in the game. That makes them reachable, editable for us though Modpacks.
Meaning you’ll have to make your own files to make a whole, through the techtreefile and protox file and whatever else you want to add. And the languagefile not to forget.

This gives modding for Age of Mythology so much more potential and creativity!

In the past i’ve made a scenario focussing on the Mesopotamians through editting Major God names and Minor God names and images.
I’m really looking forward to make a modpack for the Mesopotamians using existing buildings and units.

If you’re also a modder interested in this subject i would love to hear what you are looking forward to do with these changes.
Do note, this is not a post asking for civilization ideas or proposals. You can now do it yourself! So i’m not going to acknowledge any form of proposal or request.
What i would love to hear is to share ideas of mods we can make with these latest changes to inspire eachother. To make the modding part of our community more active.

Well to be honest, we could already create whole pantheons with new major gods, only having issue with some visual aspects of UI ^^ but having the ability to add new cultures is still a huge step for modding indeed, we can now truly say that we can add everything to create a new pantheon (since we can also add new models since Japan).

And fyi the official discord modding channel was very happy about this change and it has been talked about a bit ^^ and we will be happy to help you if needed
