Legacy UI Project

Beautiful. And yes, I think variations by culture instead of civ would be the best approach.

Didn’t expect to see an African variant. I assume you repurposed textures from event-specific UI?

In general, a lot of this stuff seems simple and probably is relatively simple if you have access to the back-end code. We don’t though, so it usually requires a lot of workarounds or smoke & mirrors. For this one, I did try but didn’t get anywhere.

@RafaSheep Thanks! The african variant I cobbled together with some stock images and portions of the other panels. I’m excited to show off the rest of it soon!

That’s clear, but since the value we are interested in is already pulled from the backend (as it’s part of the DE UI, but just hidden and you have to hover over the button to see it) I hoped that maybe there is some frontend workaround to bring that value to the foreground.

But if you say you don’t see any way, that’s a pity and we can only wait until devs look into that issue (which I guess will never happen :face_with_diagonal_mouth:).

he didn’t, i’ve seen the panels that will be used but i won’t be showing them, assertive will share when he decides to

Sadly that dropdown is defined in a way where I can’t easily pull the info. The tooltip isn’t a normal tooltip, and trying to reference that string directly causes a crash. It’s a bummer but looking into it further is probably just more effort than it’s worth.

Good work! I wish all the definitive editions had an option to show the original UI theme so the game feels more like an upgraded version of the original release.

Update: 2024-12-29T08:00:00Z

Ladies and gentlemen, a big update for the end of December. You’ll notice some little fixes here or there, but there’s a couple big changes I want to share:

Updated Control Group Banners

Reworked banners combine the legacy style flags with the updated DE icons for better visibility.

Civ-dependent HUD

Each culture group now has it’s own unique in-game HUD broken up into Euro & Colonial civs, Warchief civs, Asian civs, and African civs. Make sure to give them all a try!

Very great work, thanks.
However, in the Chinese environment, the text position of this MOD is generally higher, which is very obvious. I wonder if this can be corrected?

screenshot please, just to understand what the issue is?
i assume you refer to chinese being slightly off center towards the top of the buttons?

Sorry, no screenshots were provided just now.

welp ig time to play with fonts @AssertiveWall20
also seems to affect everything except latin alphabet characters, weird

I think it is related to the font baseline offset. It can be probably fixed by set correct offset for every language using non-latin characters, or set correct fallback font with correct offset for them.

seems like incorrect offset specifically on menu buttons, the light brown ones specifically

Thanks!

Definitely looks like a font issue, and it looks like it primarily effects the buttons that use Formal436. I’ll see what I can do!

I’m happy to announce another version of The Legacy UI Project:

Legacy UI Project: Definitive Edition

While it may seem at first like a contradiction, this version implements early unused DE assets into the legacy layout to truly mix the legacy and DE feel.

Available now on the mod browser!

Extraño la vieja moneda que giraba al cargar el juego, quizá le pudiéramos encontrar un uso

Tal vez la cuenta atrás al empezar partida, o la espera en clasificatorias.
