Might be worth to watch

The card system is awesome but wasn’t implemented properly on it’s release, that has been rectified with DE. AoEIII is a highly innovative game that requires a lot of time investment. It is my favorite in the series.

AoEIV I just want to forget it exists. It got stale very quick with me. A bland and uninspired game. I’m glad AoEIIDE and AoEIIIDE are still growing strong.

Do you forget Gameranger?

I cant really imagine people still playing Gameranger, Voobly or HD to be fair…

“I can’t believe Microsoft wants to put big money into promoting their new product”

If you were around, you’d remember that they actively sabotaged the AOE2 scene back in the 2000s when 3 came out. I’m honestly just thankful it’s mild shilling in comparison to the old methods.

AOE2 is eternal so you can stop having an inferiority complex about AOE4 being the new baby of the family, AOE2 has another Regicide Rumble coming up, and last year had Hidden Cup AND a Wololo in an actual ■■■■■■■ castle. It’s also still regularly receiving events, free content updates, balance changes that are meaningful, AND expansions. The game is in the best shape it has been in terms of the playerbase and competitive scene.

If anything you should want AOE4 to succeed. It means the RTS genre is healthy, it guarantees that Microsoft will continue to see paying money into the AOE series as a wise move, and it means AOE2 has a pipeline to the modern gaming scene to continue to grow it’s playerbase and community. A world where Age 2 and Age 4 coexist is a best case scenario. It’s the situation that will have Age 2 the healthiest.

You have it wrong.

I don’t want AoE4 to fail.

I just want proper allocation of money and effort from Microsoft. Keep 4 as the casual small brother of 2, let it succeed in its own specialty.

But AoE4 is not in an esports or highly competitive shape, won’t be any time soon, if ever, and generates no interest as one, as opposed to 2, which is and does.

Even money wise. Make AoE2DE 30 euro. Make Dlcs 15 euro each. Include it with Gamepass. Make the base game 40 euro even. It will still generate more interest and revenue than AoE4 will.

A lot of bitter taste was left in almost everyone who had hoped for a huge new RTS, not just from AoE2, but SC and other franchises too. People downloaded the game, tried out new stuff, that dried out. Most who didn’t cut it to the top immediately already left for their old games, or new ones, like Hera and Viper.

In a year nobody at the top level will be playing AoE4 for more than 5 hours a week. Most already don’t.
