Jurchen seem to speak chinese but are the ancestor of the modern Manchu. Had manchu voiceline for the jurchen, even if this is modern manchu.
For the Khitan I don’t know if the khitan language is sufficiently knowed to make proper voicerline, but at least khitan speaking mongolian are not weird because this is a para mongolic language. Put khitan voiceline for kuitan if possible.
And still no greek speaking byzantine even if greek voiceline exist in AoE4.
What the hell. No new arch sets and reusing voice lines are we now?
Honestly considering refunding the DLC because of this.
EDIT: I’ve decided to refund my preorder. I you don’t put a minimum amount of effort to make your civs feel distinct while playing besides with the civ design, it’s not worth investing money into 3 Late Antiquity civs and 2 butchered Medieval ones.
The Chinese audience knows better than anyone that the Manchu and their Jurchen ancestors are not Mandarin chinese speaking. Do they expect people not to notice?
I had forgotten about the Goths. One of my favourite civs, really wish they had their actual language rather than just German.
In this Korean-produced film, the actors portraying Manchu characters speak in Manchu, not modern Chinese. (Of course, they are Korean actors who memorized the lines rather than actual Manchu speakers.)
The fact that they made an effort to use the Manchu language suggests there’s a connection to native Manchu speakers or at least a serious attempt at authenticity. So, if the game developers are passionate and dedicated, I cautiously suggest that reaching out to the people involved in making this film might help bridge some gaps.
Additionally, there are a few other historical Korean films that made efforts to authentically portray the Manchu language.
Age of Empires III, in the early 2000s, had Manchu voice acting for just one mercenary unit. So its not like there were no Manchu speakers acessible by western devs even back then.
In fact, they could even just port the Manchu lines from AOE3 if there are big time or budget constraints. It happened before with the Inca, who got the voices from that game for their military too. The fact that they did not is honestly quite shocking to me
For the first time in the game, heroes get their very own voice lines.
But five new civs don’t get any new ones (when not counting trainable heroes), that’s baffling.
