Make RoR content available in Chronicles!

You will be able to access all AoE2DE content in Chronicles, so you can have Conquistadors fight Hopplites but it doesn’t look like any Return of Rome content will be available despite most of that being historically a lot closer to Chronicles.
Please add the Age of Empires 1 units to Chronicles, this would massively increase the amount of available content for custom scenarios!

I have a better idea: Add UU and UT for all civs in RoR!

This is a complete unrelated thing.
Chronicles has AoE2 gameplay not AoE1 gameplay.

I think the plan is to add them progressively with future dlc’s.

You mean in the editor…?

Because gameplay wise, the units are all fundamentally different in every way, even the design itself and how the proportions of AoE1 are weird.

He doesnt care about balance, he just thinks it would be fun since the gamemode wont be competitive nor serious anyway

I dont get the appeal but hes been wanting crossplay beetwen AoE1 and 2 civs since RoR was announced as just something to goof around in lobbies

I mean, the unit art and proportions, worse yet, the buildings, nothing match the AoE2 aesthetics. Why would someone want to put them side by side?

I guess its just for the chaos

But no idea really

That would be fun. Historical accuracy in multiplayer isn’t always good. A game needs to have a space where fun is more important than other considerations.

By the way, if you analyze all civs, how many of them met? Huns vs. Mayans (to give a typical example) isn’t more realistical than Conquistadors vs. Hoplites

Yes it is.

Why people pretend that a caveman fighting a Tiger Tank is not immersion breaking…?

Well, I guess this is a subjective topic. Many medieval civilizations found in Age 2 never fought, so if we make an analysis, many matches would be unrealistic (or immersion breaking) as well. Hoplites were probably stronger (or more trained) than many medieval armies.

If this is the plan, I can not wait to see antiquity Japanese UU or whatever.

The matches that happen in our play does not matter for the unrealistic or immersion breaking part, its like playing a World War 2 grand strategy game as Argentina and declaring war to the united states. Yeah, it never happened but no one will say this is immersion breaking.

Like in your example, we have in mind that Mayans exist since antiquity to the the period and overlap with the civs of the game like th Huns. In fact, Huns are the worst civ in Age2 and a huge mistake. They only exist to make the fall of the Roman Empire and only continue to exist because if devs replace it people would be mad. (Goths are the second in the list)

So now instead of fixing the mistakes of the devs in the past we want to full blown any kind of immersion or authenticity this game still have.

Theyre literally not balanced to work together. Chronicles uses normal AoE2 balance, RoR uses AoE1 balance.

RoR units and AoE2 units have the same scale. You can still access some AoE2 units in RoR with mods and they don’t look out of place, with some exceptions like Elephants.

The stats are different but that is something that can easily be fixed with triggers or they could just copy stats from some Chronicles/AOE2 units.

Units are same scale that’s why I just mentioned units in my post.

I just want the units from RoR not the whole civilisation, buildings, techtrees etc.
Just the units in the scenario editor.

RoR/AoE1 elephants are most likely african forests elephants which in real life were smaller and therefore should be more and less correct size.

They still look like a different style then AoE2 elephants, not just like a different species.

Sorry for double post.

Now that Chronicles is out we can just copy the stats from some Chronicles or AoE2 units.

Unit stats

Barracks

  • Clubman/Axeman → Militia/Man At Arms
  • Swordman Line → Milita Line starting at Man at Arms
  • Slinger → Rhodian Slinger (Chronicles)

So Axeman = Short Swordsman = Man at Arms = Maceman (Chronicles)

Archery Range

  • Bowman → Archer
  • Improved/Composite Bowman → Crossbow/Arbalester
  • Chariot Archer → Ratha (Ranged)
  • Horse Archer Line → Cavalry Archer
  • Elephant Archer → Elephant Archer

Chariot Archers can turn into Chariots and vice versa.

Stable

  • Scout → Scout Cavalry
  • Chariot → Ratha
  • Scythe Charior → War Chariot (Chronicles)
  • Cavalry Line → Knight Line
  • War/Armoured Elephant → (Elite) Battle Elephant
  • Camel Rider → Camel Rider

Siege Workshop

  • Stone Thrower Line → Mangonel Line
  • Ballista Line → Scorpion Line

Academy

  • Hoplite/Phalangite → (Elite) Hoplite (Chronicles)
  • Centurion → Elite Hippeus (Chronicles)

Dock

  • Both versions of the civilian units are matched to AoE2 1 to 1
  • Scout Ship Line → Galley Line
  • Trireme → Trireme (Chronicles) and Elite Galley (Chronicles). 2 versions.
  • Catapult Trireme Line → Cannon Galleon Line
  • Fire Galley → Elite Lembos (Chronicles)

All RoR units are the same scale as AoE2 units (with the exception of Elephants) so there should be no issue in making them available in AoE2 too, especially now that AoE2 also has ancient content in it with Chronicles.

The addition of those units would add a lot of new content to the Editor that can be used by map creators to create more immersive and interesting scenarios, especially ones with ancient settings.
Some units like the Composite Bowman perfectly fit into other settings like Japan too.

Honestly just leave RoR alone and introduce a separate pricing model to attract the Vietnamese players instead of beating the dead horse. After all bad marketing is why RoR is a bad DLC even though actually being the best version. Even to this day we lack many of the original campaigns.

All the AoE1 assets have been ported to AoE2 but we can’t use them in normal AoE2 without mods (mods that are not compatible with multiplayer).
Why not just give us access to those units. It would be a few minutes of work for the developers.

This has nothing to do with how successful RoR is or what pricing model it should have. I just want more assets in the scenario editor that have already been made!

I am in favour of making RoR a standalone DLC, especially now that the base price of AoE2DE increased but that is a completely separate independent discussion.
It also has absolutely nothing to do with the missing campaigns.

I just want to have AoE1/RoR units in AoE2 without mods, so I and others can use them in custom scenarios that can be played without having to install mods.
This has nothing to do with RoR itself.
