If these units could siege this could be game breaking.
This would be much harder to pull off on a map without Yaks. Those things fatten ridiculously quickly which gives the African civs a pretty substantial boost.
Also, this may be the first ever recorded use of Levied Gunners. Normally those things are beyond irrelevant.
If the levied gunners are not heavy infantry like the marine they would probably be pretty good. Their base stats are identical to a musket besides siege
Ethiopia guy also said he lost like 200 elo with the strategy. I’m not convinced it’s op. It very well might have been a play just to make it into a LH video.
its not op but it sounds very funny
The team game versions of this sounds alot more viable since you are just adding very cheap DPS to your team comp
That would probably help, but how they are as now as Musketeers that lose health and cost the hardest to get resource is objectively terrible.
In basically every case you’re better off just making natives or mercs at the Palace instead.
Yes, besides, Ethiopia is awful to play as… it has a super slow economy and very weak units. I remember playing 3 players vs 5 Expert AI in Acropolis with Ethophia and it was incredibly difficult, since the 5 AIs destroyed my allies and I had to fight 1v5 and it was impossible…
Atleast with AIs my experience with ethioppia is completly opposite. It has one of if not the highest possible KDs against AIs since their units never dies and I never seem to need more then 50 vils to sustain an army that can kill off the AIs.
Treaty Ethiopia was pretty insane at one point. I’d imagine a treaty-ish style of Ethiopia fighting under Mountain Monasteries would be pretty decent vs the AI. You need some culvs probably but skirm/musk or skirm/jav cav should do pretty well. The DPS on their musks can get crazy.
Their healers are important too, you want them to build more Mountain Monasteries so you can heal huge numbers of units. Keeping Native numbers high will also be important late game. I think the Somalians and Jesuits are good for you.
The level of macro and micro required to pull this off will probably be higher than what most civs will need.
Yes, Ethiopia might be very good, but it requires a lot of micromanagement with the market and influence, and it takes a lot of time to do that… I tried it, but I simply got tired of the civilization and switched to Italy at the end of 2022, and then I just started playing more Age of Empires 2, Age of Empires Online, Age of Mythology EE, and Age of Mythology Retold, and since then I haven’t gone back to Age of Empires 3… now it’s been months since I’ve even played the Age of Empires series (although I played a little Age of Empires Online at Christmas, but not much more)…
I dont know how you played it but like 90% of the time i never use that much influence or the market unlike Hausa.
You can just rely on their tanky AF units and as long as you keep them alive they acrrue value.
Heck by the time you get to age 3 they start making you money while fighing
Well, the usual: I place the mountain monasteries above the mines, send the villagers to the farms, and leave the livestock fattening up in the market to generate influence. Then use that influence to hire European mercenaries like the Cannonners and add them to my army of Neftenyas, Sebastopol Mortars, and heavy cavalry…
Yeah I think we just play it very differently, I think in most of my games i never get to the point where vils are on farms
I think this card might actually be a noob trap for supremacy. You only get 30% of the bounty as coin and it is limited to infantry, cavalry, and healers (not vils and artillery). So in order to break even with a 1000 coin shipment, you’d need to first kill 33334 resources worth of units.
By contrast, the Baja card Soldiers of Fortune gives 100% bounty as coin and applies to all units and buildings. So that’s how balanced this game is.
If you’re at the point of needing Fields as Ethiopia, you’re in a bad spot.
in 1 v1 definitely, but I think its somewhat viable once you get to a 3v3 or a 4v4 team game situation where the fights are happening alot more constantly and what the shipment effectively will do is to turn ur army into resource generation.
Its more like sending royal mint or eco theory where its your military instead of vils. Even when you compare royal mint to 1k gold the amount of villager seconds it takes to get an extra 1k gold from it is quite massive.
It will work better vs Russia since Russian units give normal build/kill xp. I also think there might be a psychological effect. I think it makes losses feel worse when you’re donating your enemy coin, whether it’s a good card or not.
