Issue: The map editor personalities for the AI don’t work. They can not be selected or used in any way or capacity, and contain no AI at all. Can we resolve the issue that has been present for months, please?
Trigger Event: Selecting the AI personality for the AI in the Map Editor
Repro Steps:
Open the map editor and make a map with some AI civilizations
Select an AI personality
There are no real AI personalities; they are unusable.
Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like, even in the community, issues surrounding the Editor, and custom scenarios in general, just don’t get ANY attention in this game, which absolutely sucks. I was hoping that the devs would have greatly fixed and improved some of the worser aspects of custom scenarios, but sadly, a lot of the bad elements about them got carried over from the original game. Hell, I’ve even noticed that, when having a default God set in the editor, choosing a different God in a skirmish will sometimes cause the Town Center to have units from the Editor civ (e.g. Jason from Greek, when you choose Fu Xi in Skirmish). Music doesn’t seem to start in custom scenarios without placing triggers. And the AI in custom scenarios is still as dumb as ever.
Stuff like this gets to be extremely frustrating. But because everyone seemingly neglects the Editor and custom scenarios, bugs like these never even get brought up. And when they do, they receive VERY little attention, or response from the community.
Anyway, I second that it would be nice to see personalities be an option for custom scenarios, and it baffles me that they didn’t even have this option within the Editor, too, when they originally released them. I guess, if I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt, then maybe the devs are just waiting to release a few more personalities, and refine the existing ones before doing so? Better yet, and PLEASE let this be true… Maybe they are panning an entire patch to be released in the future that addresses most of the Editor and Custom Scenario problems in general. PLEASE, devs, let this be the case!
Yeah, this is definitely an issue and one that I recently reported in another thread.
It’s because Scenarios keep the default god techs active from the selected god in the player data.
This behavior is something you want when making a campaign, but not when making a scenario that is intended to have players play it through the lobby with chooseable gods.
There is a workaround of disabling your default SetTechs, or setting the players to MotherNature civ which wipes all techs, and then you can re-SetTechStatus their chosen starting civ techs, but I hope they adjust this in the future for ease of creation, especially for new creators who don’t understand why this happens and how to fix it.
Perhaps they can allow for setting the personality in the PlayerData area. I’m not sure how feasible that actually is.
But the reason you can’t select the personality AI files is because they don’t actually exist.
Hello @Clyon and @PraiseKingJoko - Thank you for bringing this up. I’ve brought this to the attention of the devs and have pointed them to this conversation. We are now tracking the request.
