I believe there is no expectation about such a thing forthcoming.

They’ve already delivered the “editor” in the form of a scam basically. We all know what kind of an editor players were expecting and though this fulfills the needs of heavy duty mod makers, not only is it inadequate for them due to all the limitations involved in mods in multiplayer or custom games, but the vast majority of players who did utilize ingame editors in past games, did so as a sandbox singleplayer experience of messing around with units and having fun building something.

They haven’t mentioned anything since, suggesting that no one at the offices is ashamed of cutting corners to the point of not delivering expected content, and pretending that they did. So basically, they will keep pretending that they’ve fulfilled this when in reality, they completely screwed us over in this regard.

In conjunction to an extremely weak campaign, the lack of an ingame editor makes AoE4 feel like an extremely hollow single player experience with only focus on MP. Let us hope they learned a lesson with the upcoming content, and fingers crossed that one day someone has the gall to confront their superiors about the mess that is the editor.

If Blackbird Interactive, of past Relic developers, can create a wonderful editor for a small game called Crossfire: Legion, then there is no reason that Relic Entertainment working on the second biggest RTS franchise can’t.

I believe that it is highly unlikely that we will get an editor that is similar to previous titles. What I therefore hope for are more official, in-depth tutorials about the current editor. The devs have produced a few, but these mainly cover the basics.
