Meiji Japan Rising Sun Flag Replacement

Discuss Meiji Japan Rising Sun Flag Replacement

I don’t think that should be allowed, just like no one would replace a German flag with that “you know what” flag.

We need to take this mod down as soon as possible instead of leaving it in the mod workshop for everyone to download - it’s going to make Asian people feel uncomfortable.

Yes, it’s a somewhat controversial flag…it’s like putting the Confederate flag mod on the USA civ…

Isnt it the japan navy current flag?

Actually, I would rather suggest using the “Kinoshino-no-Ogi”, which represents the Japanese royal family, meaning the flag with a red background and yellow chrysanthemums

While there are some differences, they can indeed be considered under the same banner.

After Japan’s defeat and surrender in 1945, the old navy was disbanded and the flag was banned. In 1954, when Japan established the Maritime Self-Defense Force, the design was revived as the fleet flag and has been used ever since.

Due to the aggressive atrocities committed by Japanese militarism against Asian countries during World War II, this flag is widely seen as a symbol of aggression in places like China and South Korea, similar to the Nazi swastika, and is strongly resisted.

So it’s controversial just as a flag for Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force(An important point is that Japan doesn’t actually have a navy right now - it’s not allowed by law), let alone what it symbolizes behind that. Can you imagine Germans or Italians coming up with some outdated symbol representing extreme ideology as the symbol for their army or navy and having it accepted by the public?

The current navy flag is the same it has been since the Meiji reformation and during WW2, so yes. The sun is situated slightly to the left on the navy flag.
The army had almost the same flag but the sun was in the middle instead which has been abandoned after WW2 The national flag of Japan has also been in use since the Meiji reformation.
De Jure, Japan had no national flag until 1999 when it was codified.

I’d like to add that, imo, mods are the best solution when you want to add something controversial. Although that’s easy to say as long as they aren’t turning your region into a modern-day war zone, as is currently the case in Ukraine. I’m talking about FPS games here, because in strategy games it’s somehow easier for me to understand that someone is taking strategic and military actions. Anyway, do you think the Third Reich flag shouldn’t be allowed either? I mean, you know, I see the Soviet flag symbol in mods so often that it makes no difference to me.
