Hi @mmlhoe, thank you for the report. This is a known issue and is already tracked

Is it the bug that prevents custom entries to story ? Because for us modders, it’s impossible to add history entry for a new unit.

I believe the Compendium is defined by \game\data\gameplay\learning_material.xml, which links to the history files in \game\data\strings\English\history. The history files link to strings in \game\data\strings\English\string_table.txt (and the strings in other languages). So it’s pretty easy to mod. There are just numerous mistakes and missing entries currently in the files.

The Freyr God Pack techs are missing history files. It would be very simple to add them.

Dark Water’s history is broken because there’s a typo in its history file. If it’s apparently already tracked, I don’t know why it hasn’t been fixed because it would take 5 seconds to delete an S.

Did you try to mod it ?
Because I did everything, added and history entry, added strings, even added my unit to the compendium (it shows up) but no luck in getting the history in.
It’s like my history folder isn’t read

They have a long list of errors that they need to go through so they have to decide which ones to do first.
I hope we can all agree that crashes, exploits, game braking bugs, balance issues and so one are more important then history texts.

In the case of this bug it will likely take more time making a commit to the git repository and updating the bug tracker then actually fixing the bug.
They will likely want to do all of the text file related bug fixes at once and not do them one by one so save time.

You’re right. I’ve tried and the unit appears in the Compendium but the history description does not. I also tried replacing the history of an existing unit with that of another existing unit, and that did nothing. So clearly the contents of the history folder are not modable, which seems like an unintentional oversight.

They can do more than one thing at once. This seems like a mistake that could have been fixed as soon as it was spotted. They’ve fixed other similar bugs in the six months since the game was released, so they’re clearly not waiting to do them all at once.

With all at once I mean all that are currently known to them at once.

Making a patch, testing if it works on 3 different platforms and then rolling it out on 4 different stores costs time and money. They don’t want to go though all of that just to fix some minor text issues or something like that.
They are obviously trying to do as many fixes in one update as they can and only speed up things if there are urgent bugs that very negatively impact many players.

That’s why they don’t just make a new patch every day. If there are urgent issues they make weekly patches but during normal times monthly is good enough.
We want the developers to work on the game and not spend all their time just warping up patches for 4 different stores.

Obviously I don’t mean they should put out a patch with just one fix. But they could easily haved fixed it internally at some point and pushed it out in one of the updates. Considering it’s been broken since the game was released, they clearly never tested it in the first place. It’s odd that they went to the effort of writing history entries for (almost) everything but then never checked to see if they actually made it into the game. I don’t doubt that they are more focused on gameplay bugs - they likely have very limited playtesting and that’s why they’re relying on us to do it for them. (To be clear, I blame the money people not the workers.)

Oh the bug has been there since the release of the game?
Then it’s a different story. They clearly had enough time to fix it.
Now they have a lot of new bugs to worry about though.

Hope they fix that for sure, I made a bug report about it

I’ve noticed that a few myth techs (for Chinese myth units) just reuse the myth units description as the history. Also, some of the new myth tech only have one or two sentences of information. A bit disappointing.
