Friends of this community, my name is Vitor, I’m Brazilian, and I’ve been a developer for 4 years, working with web and mobile applications. In the past few weeks, I delved into the files of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, which led me and some friends to embark on a somewhat ambitious mod. The idea was to cover South American countries like Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and possibly others. However, during the development of the first civilization, I was inspired to attempt something larger.
With just 3 people, we managed to develop almost an entire Brazilian civ in 1 week (still missing the 3D models). Imagine what we can achieve with more people from different countries, possessing diverse knowledge. Perhaps we can expand to Australia, the Middle East, the rest of Asia, more African countries, and, of course, include more natives and a few Europeans (yes, I’m talking about the highly requested Poles).
(We intend to make the civilizations as balanced as our capabilities allow.)
If you consider yourself capable, have some knowledge of modding, or wish to contribute with a willingness to learn (I, too, started learning recently), please contact me via direct message or reply to this thread. I rely on your support to make this game even more incredible than it already is.
If you wold like the AI to use them, you’re more than welcome to copy my AI mod into it! I can help make sure the AI uses any new stuff you put into the civ also.
Actually, this seems very good. I just created a Discord to bring people together. Previously, we only used our gaming Discord to share information, so this new server is still quite basic.
I really wanted to make an ambitious mod, but going in the opposite direction of what you’re proposing: (basically what you want to do already exists, which is the Liberty mod).
My idea would be to do a more historical review of age 3 based on the empires, but with improvement and greater importance in the local civi (the tribes you have on the map to place the trade routes).
I wonder what happened to this project? Anyway, this topic is from last year, I highly doubt it is relevant today. It’s because of this kind of thing that I proposed giving users the ability to create temporary topics, but oh well, nevermind.
Regarding this topic, I hope this project comes to fruition, I really want to see South American civilizations in this game and with this engine, I would especially love to see Argentina as a complete civilization and be able to re-create the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado.
Well that’s disappointing, although in my experience it was predictable, I’ve seen many modders start projects, but few finish them or even give something tangible. That’s why I admire those who deliver something, because few do.
In my experience making mods can be a lot of fun, but it is also something that can take a lot of time, there is a lot to learn, a lot to research, a lot to design, a lot of code to write and then you have to test it. I’ve already published a few mods, but there are several more that I left unfinished due to design issues, loss of interest and such. And at certain periods I find myself very busy. Sometimes I wonder if it would be better to use the time to make my own games, so maybe I could make some money with it, but the good thing about making mods is that I have learned a lot of things (although it is not enough to make a good game by myself still…).
So my advice to others who want to make mods is: Making mods can be a lot of fun, you can learn a lot of things, it’s a good gateway to learn programming/coding and game design, but it’s also time consuming, it’s not something recommended for those who have little time.
