More Unique Revolts

No, not at all; the Livonia revolution is actually quite good. It just needs some polishing—perhaps adding a few more Home City cards would make the difference needed to turn it into an excellent revolution.

What I said? Livonian is a current good All-In, I didn´t say the opposite.

Beyond that, the cards I’ve marked as useless are indeed useless. If you disagree with any of them, please tell me which ones.

You marked almost everything as useless or semi-useless; I don’t know what else to say about that. The cards that transform units are the most important part of this revolution, yet you labeled them useless; I think you went a bit too far in claiming that most of the cards in this revolution aren’t good.

That’s why I said that if you disagreed in any specific point, let’s discuss it. Otherwise it would take a lot of time.

As soon as I saw this revolution, I started examining it in depth. I wish it didn’t have so many weak cards, but at least it stays viable because its post-Revolution effect is very strong as well as the Black Riders card.

I have even detected a bug (give me like please): BUG

Well, there is one thing I have to agree with you on: the Order Crossbowman is too weak, and the cards that are supposed to boost him apparently don’t work. I hope the developers can fix that issue with the Order Crossbowmen. There’s no point in bringing in a new unit if it’s going to be weaker than the unit it’s replacing.

I would like to see a Norwegian for Sweden/denmark, a Schleswig revolt for Denmark (if Poland can have cool new revolts, so can Denmark), maybe even an early Scanian Revolt if that is how things are now. I would like to see Hungary become German exclusive (with a second part representing the Compromise of 1867 and Austria Hungary). This would make it a more 1848 style revolt, separating it from the current military frontier style and replacing the grenzer with the Honved entirely. The Grenzer can either be a mercenary or a house unit as a hybrid light-heavy infantryman. For the Dutch replace America or Brazil with Belgium and for Malta, Russia and Ottomans, replace Hungary with Serbia, Bulgaria or and most likely Greece. And for British, we really should replace Haiti with Ireland (or maybe Australia). And making the older revolts viable and cool like the new revolts should be a top priority. These new revolts feel so loaded, it is not even fair.

Unique Revolutionaries: Honved, Gardes, Palicari, Fennian/Croppy

I hope they turn Tupac Amaru’s revolution into a full-fledged revolution, not just a card.

Perhaps it could be similar to the Meiji “revolution” that the developers gave to the Japanese. :crossed_fingers:

Your idea sounds quite interesting—I like it. Hopefully, the developers can implement some of these proposals.

I would love to see China get some new modernization efforts akin to the Self-Strengthening Movement and India get a Sepoy Rebellion of some kind. These would be akin to the new Meiji Revolution

Yes, perhaps for a (new) DLC in Asia…the game hasn’t touched Asia since 2007 (or 2021 with the customizations of the Asian homecities)…

For an Asian DLC Korea and Siam or a new Middle East civ type: Iran & Oman & Morocco

Sure, I was thinking of two Asian DLCs: Middle East (Persians and Omanis) and Southeast Asia (Burmese and Siamese) (all four would use Indian architecture)… I’d leave the Moroccans for them to work on properly, along with the Kanemites if they include them, and have them use African architecture like the Hausa and Ethiopians…

There was cut content in the beta for an Irish Revolution.

In the The Baltics Powers beta, there are remains of what seems to be an Irish revolution, with Dublin as the Home City. It ships 7 Gallowglasses and Settlers become Bonaght Militia, who counter mercenaries and native auxiliaries.

A shame we didn’t get this. It would have been a cool revolution option. The devs could try and add it in at a later point via patch.

I hope they add the Irish Revolution in a future update; it seems to me that they already have enough House of Stuart assets to complete the revolution.

The House of Stuart is Scottish…

Yes, but the Irish Revolution assets found in the beta actually reused some assets from the House of Stuart. Don’t tell me that—tell the developers.

You know that if they ever release the Irish Revolution, the developers are going to use House of Stuart assets—like Scottish units and all that—for it; you already know this, it’s nothing new. That’s how it’s always been: for every revolution, they use assets from other civilizations. Only in very special cases, like the Mexican and Polish revolutions, do they use unique units specific to those revolutions; the others rely on shared units. You know this better than anyone, so don’t act surprised. You know they’ll use Irish units alongside shared House of Stuart units.

Irish revolution:

  • In the The Baltics Powers beta, there are remains of what seems to be an Irish revolution, with Dublin as the Home City. It ships 7 Gallowglasses and Settlers become Bonaght Militia, who counter mercenaries and native auxiliaries. It would have featured these cards: Fenian Musketeers (Upgrades Musketeers to Fenian Musketeers that have a long-ranged attack, +5 Stealth Petards); Irish Immigrants (Ships 2 Pilgrims for each shipment sent so far this game as well as every new shipment); Irish Pilgrim (Ships 8 semi-fattened Cows and 2 Irish Pilgrims); Dublin Beer Factory (Ships 1 Factory Wagon and researches its resource upgrades, +1 Heavy Cannon); Pub Culture (Ships 3 Tavern Wagons and enables them at your Town Center. Taverns generate resources faster, including food); Woodkerne (Ships 3 Pikemen for each House. Pikemen are faster, have Guard status, and now cost less food); Gaelic Chieftain (Delivers 1 Gaelic Chieftain, a cavalry hero that can receive shipments, train troops, and increase the hitpoints of nearby infantry units); 18 Bonaght Militia; Creach (Gallowglasses and Bonaght Militias can gather from crates, Berry Bushes, livestock and trees. You gain resources for destroying buildings); 12 Gallowglasses; 18 Irish Brigadiers; 24 Stuart Allies; Na Séamasaigh (Ships 1 Royal Embassy Wagon in which the House of Stuart grants access to its Royal units, upgrades, and technologies. Stuart units now cost population when acquired from the Royal Embassy or the Home City, +10 Bonaght Militia).

@M00Z1LLA You always have little faith in me when I say something; I hope this manages to change your stance toward me.

To be fair, Jacobite Scots did fight alongside the Irish during the Williamite Wars (late 17th century), though it would be a little lazy to rely on House of Stuart units as the Irish line-up when there’s plenty of source material for Irish units.

I really hope the developers change their minds and manage to add the Irish Revolution when the Baltic DLC launches. There are quite a few Home City cards that look very interesting to me, and this would also give the British civilization a better twist regarding revolution mechanics. Perhaps this way, they could finally eliminate the Haitian Revolution as a revolution option once and for all, replacing it with the Irish Revolution.

I also wouldn’t rule out the addition of a Belgian Revolution for the Dutch in the future; if the developers managed to turn the May Revolution card into a revolution for Germany, I have no doubt they could transform the Belgian Revolution card into a genuine revolution option for the Dutch civilization.

Last but not least, I also hope that at some point they manage to add the Greek Revolution as an option for the Ottomans; I think it’s something many AoE III players have been waiting for for years. Perhaps, with time and dedication, all these ideas will eventually come to fruition.

The Irish revolt seemed to have both Irish elements and Scottish elements. I tried to find translations to see what shipments were referring to. Gaelic is a tricky language… if I’m wrong about something then please clarify.

Na Séamasaigh - (Ships 1 Royal Embassy Wagon in which the House of Stuart grants access to its Royal units, upgrades, and technologies. Stuart units now cost population when acquired from the Royal Embassy or the Home City, +10 Bonaght Militia).

Na Séamasaigh is in the Gaelic language. Na means “the”. Séamasaigh or Séamasay roughly translates to “James” or “Jameson”. If it’s Scottish, then it must be the Jameson clan of Scotland.

The House of Stuart included units that speak Middle Gaelic, which was spoken in both Ireland and Scotland. So, I guess that’s the one of the justifications for being able to ally with them, a Celtic alliance of sorts.

Bonaght Militia: This would be the revolutionary unit for the Irish Revolt.

The word Bonaght is Irish Gaelic. This was a tax formerly imposed by Irish chieftains upon their people for the quartering of soldiers. It could also be related to buanna or buannacht: billeted soldier basically. Billeting was a term historically used to refer to the quartering of soldiers.

Fenian Musketeers: The shipment would upgrade to Fenian musketeers who have longer-range and also send Stealth Petards (reference to Irish explosive experts?)

Fenians were Irish republican revolutionaries that sought to achieve the independence of Ireland from the British Empire in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century.

Woodkerne: The shipment sends Pikemen and improves them.

Woodkerne seems to be an Irish Gaelic term. Wood-kerne, was a reference to native Irish foot-soldiers called ceithearnaigh, or “kerne”.

Creach: This shipment grants Gallowglasses and Bonaght Militias the ability to gather from crates, Berry Bushes, livestock and trees. You would also gain resources for destroying buildings.

The word “creach” in Irish and Scottish Gaelic terms, refers to the act of raiding or plundering, originating from Middle Irish crech, which means “plunder” or “prey”.

Most of the other stuff is clearly Irish: Dublin Beer Factory, Gaelic Chieftain, Irish Pilgrim, Irish Brigadiers, etc.

The question remains on whether this was a Fortress Age or Industrial Age revolution. I’m leaning towards Industrial. If it was a Fortress Age revolt, I would recommend some way to reach Age 4 like how the Grand Duchy of Ruthenia tech can improve the Cossack Hetmanate revolt. I wish Livonia had that option too.

You make a great point; I also wonder why the Livonian Revolution is so poorly represented in the game, whereas the Cossack Revolution is heavily featured. I hope they manage to rework the Livonian Revolution by the time the Baltic DLC launches. Not only that, but I also hope they update the older revolutions, as they have really fallen behind compared to the ones added more recently.

You did an excellent job compiling all this information regarding the Irish Revolution. I hope they manage to include it when the Baltic DLC comes out; honestly, I found it quite strange that Irish units appeared on certain European maps and in promotional photos for the DLC, yet weren’t mentioned in the official announcement. I’d like to think this is part of the developers’ marketing strategy—much like what they did with the Independence mode, about which they still haven’t shown anything concrete. Hopefully, it is just a marketing tactic; I’d be a bit disappointed if the Irish content didn’t make it into the update scheduled for the DLC launch, but oh well—it’s best to stay positive.
