As a Greek main player, I can say there is one unit I only recruit when the game is basically won, the Myrmidon. They are so weak and have such a slow attack speed that in a 30 vs 30 battle with the Fanatics, more than 20 Fanatics survive. Imagine that in a battle in a real match; you need to have more than double the economy of your opponent for it to be worth recruiting a Myrmidon.
That is, against an Atlantean who uses Fanatics, you need to recruit Hypaspists, so the Atlantean will recruit Arcus. The Hypaspist has such weak piercing defense that it becomes impossible to face it in an equal fight, since the Fanatics also practically defeat the Hypaspists, not to mention the Destroyers, which take no damage from Toxotes.

Agree, all 3 unique mythic age greek units feel lackluster overall and it shows, they are rarely made (outside of posidon calv on team games)
. Im surprised hera doesnt have an upgrade for myrmidon (it only gives the free untis from fortress) They feel quite weak compared to fanatics and even berserk dao swordsman uprgaded, i used to regard them as the “best infantry unit” but they are outclassed by all other civs infantry.

They simply need more damage so they can utilize their devine damage. That’s it.
Just sprinkeling some inside your beefy hoplite.
With posidon I think they better revert the damage changes they did to make them more different than hippious (e.g damage to 10, no bonus vs archers) and nerf the lifesteal upgrade instead to work only on the primary target so they can’t heal a ton. With testing you can see just how effective is this upgrade alone, it’s absord and makes a lot of otherwise losses a win.
With Gastraphetoros I’m not sure they are going the right direction, simply because petrobolos exists and takes that niche. If I use examples from aoe2, I think they could remove bonus vs buildings and either get:
- Divine damage to work like composite bow archers
- Pierce damage and work like a longbowman (better dps and range than toxotes, but for a cost)
- Bonus vs cavalry and work like the genose crossbow.
- High bonus vs infantry to work like cannoneer.
Or maybe attack speed. And Hera myrmidons are toooooo weak. The Hephaestus exclusive upgrade should be an standard upgrade in greek armory for all Greek special units.
Yea, theres different places they can take hte ideas. On my opinion:
Divine damage archers is a big no no for me. Divine damage ignores armor, meaning they hit for the full amount of damage, meaning they would just crumble buildings/myth units/heroes you name it, it dies, if they on top of that keep that x11 building modifier its gonna be insane. Its stronger that meele units with divine damage because you can target focus what you want dead, and from a distance they can just snipe it, for example, vs SoO, nidhog, yinlong, etc.
Bonus vs calv is also werid, specially now that ballistic is a thing, being able to just make archers and counter any army comp shouldnt be a thing, and tox - peltast- anti calv archer would just melt everything, specially while being hades and spamming fortress and centinela.
I like the other 2, would just be a matter of numbers.
Yea as long as the dps goes up it will be good, be it the damage or the attack speed.
I’m not sure Hera needs to buff them though. If they will be a good unit with much higher damage, than it’s simply a choice between allowing them to somewhat counter myth units or get those good units for free.
@Cjcuadros01 yes of course, some of the suggestions sure require some drastic adjustments like reducing range and/or removing bonus vs buildings to balance them (and might not be balanced with hades afterall).
Not for nothing both the composite bowman and the genose crossbow have less range than standard archer in aoe2.
