Chronicles introduce a good counter to the fire ship. I think we need a similar ship in feudal age, a ship who don’t explode unlike the demolition ship. Demolition ships are good but in all manner we lost them so it is a waste of resource.
Maybe a trash unit ship for medieval civ.
Also transport ship carry capacity must be increased of 5 by age instead of being increased by technology.
A catapult ship in castle age is a good idea and can be upgraded in dromon in imperial age for civ who don’t age galleon canon.
Lembos can have a automate scouting like light cavalry. This also can apply to all the ship.
Could you make animated oars for all the ships (fire galley and dromon)
I really want a water overhaul, water maps are soooo boring compared to land maps because of the lack of variety
At the very least I would balance more civs on water, civs that had top tier navies historically like Spanish and Chinese should be able to rival the top tier ones like Portuguese, Vikings or Italians
I would give good/better water bonuses to at least half the civs, basically I would stop treating water as a category like infantry or archers and balance it pretty much independently of land (okay, not exactly independently because some stuff like defenses, landings and eco bonuses overlap, but you know what I mean)
Another thing that would make water more interesting is terrain differences, there’s no elevation in water, but giving different properties depending on how deep the water is would be cool (maybe ships on deeper water move faster, or ships on shallow water take less damage)
I like this and agree, but unfortunatly unlike the antiquity era naval ramming wasn’t really a thing in the Middle Ages. There were other types of ships (Galleass for example might be a good shout) but it would still probably have to be a ranged ship. Also the original Romae ad Bellum mod had a boarding ship as well, that basically functioned like a naval monk but you had to get right next to the ship you’re trying to board. I think that idea also has some potential as well.
I do think the “trash ship” shouldn’t be the fire ship though, maybe another ranged ship that just isn’t as good as a galley (Galleass would probably be better as the trash ship, they were still primarily oar-propelled and weren’t great outside the Mediterranean)
