this is hopefully what is going to happen. hopefully exactly all 3 points. and devs have seemingly confirmed point 3 already, in the mean time siege definitely isnt as strong as the rest of these people make it out to be, especially if we consider the cost… for the same gold we get 30 MAA for 1 bombard… THIRTY
they are really not that good, of all the siege they are maybe one of the least powerful for the cost
Springalds just need the damage swap and its fine. The super spam should stop then actually if horsemen counter them properly.
No need then to make more then 4-5 Springalds to be able to 1-Shot other Siege equipment and they become what they are intended to, a counter siege unit. Not a counter everything unit.
Nest of Bees needs to be fixed. Currently its actually bugged. If you watch it closely it only shoots 8 rockets but the shooting animation still goes on for the missing 16 rockets, reloading starts after that, therefore their rof is lower then it should be.
Trebs actually feel underwhelming imho. Rams will get adjusted in Winterpatch with less health, more ranged armor.
Bombards should do less damge to other Siege Units, it makes Culverins obsolete if Bombards are strong vs buildings and siege.
In terms of movement rates and setup time, dunno, dont care.
What are you talking about ? Everyone has siege units, they are completely fine. Springalds has to be tweaked a little bit and thats all. And they said it already on twitch. I think you should learn a little bit more about the game before asking for balance related stuff.
Siege engines are quite easy to deal with, actually horseman can counter everything, if you see cannons and you can’t do anything against them, then its mean you did a lot of mistake.
Devs please dont listen who want age of 4 to be age of 2 and dont remove siege equipments. Tweak them but dont remove them.Age of 2 is boring game but age of 4 is fun with siege equipments.
Seige needs to be nerf period or limited to two seige unit each player seige is running the games not fun its who can build cannons and seige faster devs do something this is annoying.limt seige units to two
I have a tip for you Crispy200. I figured out your problem by watching the first 5 minutes of your game. You need to build resource dropoff buildings for the resources you’re collecting. If you just have your villagers, running back and forth from your berries and forests to your TC you fall so far behind. 20minutes into the game you were dead to man-at-arms, you had 1 mining camp and no other drop off buildings. You were long distance mining with your mining camp because you built it far away from gold veins and stone outcroppings. You had no docks and your ally had to save you. You had basically no military (idk like 1-2 units), litterally no eco upgrades (you didn’t even have resource drop off buildings at 20mins except a mining camp and you didn’t research the mining upgrade). You were in castle age with 30 villagers and 22 were idle. All other players are like 150-180 population at 27 minutes game time and you only have 53 population. You can’t say it was because you got rushed as your ally saved you when you were attacked and the enemy had to go through their base to reach yours. Removing siege from the game won’t help you, sorry. Need to start making resource drop off buildings, try to maintain constant villager production, try to take as many types of food resources as possible, all the while making military units. Once you can do that you can add in micromanaging your military units and worry about going the correct type of units and when to take upgrades later. Good luck and keep it up.
If anything siege could probably be squishier (and Springald nerf ofc) but limiting to 2 siege or nerfing bombards just means you probably have never played age of empires, they have been important units since 1999 lol.
I think the setup up and pack up time of bombards can be increased, they can be moved pretty easy to snipe and run etc. Some civs have extra health on their bombards making them very hard to snipe without calvary or counter siege. But for 1000 worth of resources you don’t want to nerf them too much. The main pain point for Crispy200 seems to be that siege kills their defensive structures. Seems they’d rather have a game where players throw thousands and thousands of resources against towers and keeps with no counter unit available them. Or rather that siege will take 5-10 minutes to destroy a building to allow for time to build another one behind it. I feel trebs need a buff tbh. Takes the same pop space as a bombard but moves soo slow and their building damage is pretty shite. Takes too long to destroy anything. Maybe increase movement speed while packed, decrease range slightly, and increase attack speed. Could balance it out with 10% miss chance… Or not.
The worst thing about the game is siege in my opinion.
A game that’s supposedly about historical accuracy has bombards, that in reality had difficulty hitting a CASTLE, that are able to snipe moving cavalry in this game. Its completely ridiculous!
A group of artillery units simply shreds anything coming at it, including knights. Basically, the players with most artillery wins.
I think it’s because Relic used some sort of WW2 tank unit in the engine from Company of Heroes, and copy pasted medieval artillery skins on it, but the gameplay and accuracy is 100% like a King Tiger and 0% like a rudimentary medieval bombard.
Lol, that’s a pretty good description! I understand relic is trying to pull some aspects from other rts games, like homing projectiles, but I feel like the only artillery unit that should have a decent chance vs units is mangonels. This is how the counters should go:
Springald and that weird spread-shot gunpowder unit and Culverins should counter Artillery and deal bonus damage vs Armored Infantry. (It’s literally a massive crossbow unit)
NoB and Mangonel should counter all infantry and soft counter all units that are not buildings, boats, and siege
Treb and Cannon should be counters to buildings and other siege
If relic wants cannons to destroy non buildings and siege. They should force the player to research a grape-shot or something. Which the cannon can swap too with a click but has to reload. This also greatly reduces the cannon’s effective range.
Springalds are kinda OP right now, too many damage, shoot from too far. I think Relic should remove 1 range and 20 damage against units.
With the lower range being 11 tiles, when the springalds shoot you’ll be able to land a hit with a 10-tiles-unit (bombard, etc). Other thing it’ll make them a little bit harder to position against those 10-tiles-units/keep. And with the lower damage the player will need more springald and more micro to one shoot units.
I don’t think we should nerf the movespeed.
Mangonels are fine, Trebuchet too.
The only stuff I don’t really like is the Clocktower siege weapons, too many HP, I really think it should be lower (just to tank 1 more bombard hit for example but no Culverin or others units…)
Edit : about Clocktower’s bombard if Relic nerf 10%-15% hp, French royal cannon should be able to 2 shoot them which is kinda good/realistic because actually Royal artillery is only use for Culverin. French Cannon are a lot weaker actually 320HP against 500 for a normal Bombard.
Yes, now the first thing players do in the castle age is to produce Springalds, and then attack each other’s Springalds. Everyone’s other soldiers are foils. I think this should not be what developers want to see Game screen.
I understand that games don’t come out perfect, and patches are a inevitable requirement when it comes to games due to unforeseen exploits. So when this whole Springald spam started showing up a few weeks ago, I took it with a grain of salt. But my goodness, Its been weeks now, i feel like half the games I play become a Springald war. This isn’t the age of Empires Ive come to love my whole life, and seeing so many of my games resolve to such a surreal experience, it’s taken the joy from the game and excitement I had of its release. I’m not a developer, and I don’t pretend to be one, but I dont understand for the life of me why the Springald abuse cant just be fixed rather expediently. It’s been weeks now. Why must we wait so long for a game to become reasonably playable?
Did a community balance poll, and with out a doubt, springalds take the cake when it comes to imbalanced unit mechanics. They are not only cheap, move faster than normal siege, and pack enough of a punch to mow down knights even into the late stages of the game. I think, judging by the data, everyone will be a lot happier with a springald nerf.
stopped playing, game is imposible to play right now, springalds abuse and mass is so stupid, also if you are Abbasid or Delhi you simple cannot play 2v2 vs civ with unique units at tier 2… there is no way to stop the abuse, I totally regret my buy on this game, I thought the game was tested but it seems no one tested this game enough, now we need to stop paying for 1 month lol…
I beat it. You have to be tactical. They are slower than the rest of the army. Hitting and running from multiple sides would make Springald on disadvantage as they are “slower”.
