New balance Patch is bad for greeks

Zeus needs help, and all he got is a -10 favor on Bolt, which puts it at 55 for recast. This still means nobody is using it after the free cast. 55 favor to kill one unit? Does that sound logical? The Myrmidon buff is a joke, most games are already decided before Mythic (1v1). Zeus and Hades probably have the worst tempo in the game, and compared to the other civs, their power spike hops are weak. Greeks have been facing nerf after nerf since the launch of Retold. I’m kind of tired of waiting for something good and interesting on patch day (as a Greek main).

Agreed. I play mainly Zeus and I think its by far the worst Greek right now.
I don’t expect these little buffs to change anything. However, the Norse and Atlantean nerf can make an impact.

Still hope for some significant buff next patch. Look at the buffs the Egyptians have been getting lately… why can’t we have something like that?? Win-rates are the evidence that Zeus and Hades need some help.

First and foremost, Zeus does not need any buffs or anything at all, he’s good as it is. Just because his Bolt costs that much makes no Difference. It’s a good starting ability that can save you from an early rush by a unit you can’t defend your self from. All other ability’s he can get or has are way better and really strong, in classical age you can pick two excellent abilities and myth units.

And for third age as well, for last age you just have to pick if you want to go for resources (plenty)or for the lightning storm that is really op and go aggressive and let’s not forget that in last age all myth units are great.

If you think that his starting ability is bad for late game, just look at Loki his spy costs 60 Favor for a first recast. And that ability does no DMG just makes you see enemy players surroundings.

Technically, Zeus is the only one who can instantly kill a unit with his First ability. None other God has that kind of power.

I’m sorry, but I’ve played all Gods and played this game a good amount, and Zeus is not a bad god At all.

Then how can you explain these numbers?

Bolt is decent, but his bonuses are lackluster compared to other gods.

What exactly do I need to explain? That not all people are good at the game or are new and want to learn to play with their gods? (no shame intended, ofc) we are all learning the game as we go.

If you look overall, all status of 1v1 ranked, meaning low and high ELO combined. It’s going to have mixed win %

And if Zeus was so bad as you think just by looking at his win rate, let’s look at high ELO players in their games and win rates with Zeus.

Don’t get me wrong, if out of lets say 6000 players, 1000 win because they are good and others don’t know the matchups or how to counter them don’t expect a good win rate for that god.

Not all gods have great bonuses, and Zeus is yet again not that bad with his bonuses …

All i have to say is about Zeus being used in right strategy and good game sense.

The update of the gods and changes to some things will go on indefinitely…this is not good !
Old version of AOM was somehow balanced. The large number of players in the new version requires various changes that will eventually ruin the game. That’s my opinion,idk.For me AOM retold is perfect now !

Then i guess we do not use New Balance patch then, we can use Nike or Adidas. They are probably better.

Did it ever occur to you that his 29 games with Zeus could’ve been played before they nerfed centaurs, minos, hydra, nemean lion and manticore?

Zeus is not the best example, for which I apologize, since he is doing mostly ok in the rating range that matters. The point still remains, the other two Greek gods are not doing well (info from patch 17.36100 - 10/10/2024)

New balance is underrated

I feel you man, in general these tiny patches have been rather frustrating for a passionate player like myself, mainly because they dont really seem to change much. I sincerly hope this is more a result of the upcoming chinese pantheon release and the devs not wishing to shake the boat to much before release rather than signs to come how they will handle balance patches going forward.

I have faced the same 2-3 strategies it feels like since the launch of the game, exception being that one time when people realised how busted thor was, which I still feel hasnt been fully adressed and it just kills any excitement for 1 vs 1. Made worse by most games being decided in the classical age thanks to defensive play being frankly a joke, which ironically also kills one of Zeus greatest strenghts that being that he used to be able to counter these greedy strategies with his Athena rushes. Now Zeus is either playing as an infinetly worse Poseidon or trying some Minotaur shenangigans.

I personally belive that hades and poseidon are in a decent spot, they may benefit from some adjustments, but overall are solid gods.

Zeus on the other hand is still a decent major god, but need a lot of adjustments to me.

  • Heracles is the worse greek hero compared to other heroes of the same age.
    For comparison, Achilles have 330 HP with 5.3 speed, while Heracles have 357 with a 4.8 speed. Speed is the most important stat for age 2, especially for greek heroes that need to be at multiple part of the map at the same time, and 27 extra HP are nothing compared to 0.5 less speed.
    Heracles either need a little more speed, even just to bring it 5.0, or some other stat increase.

  • Argive Patronage takes too long to come online. The idea of free mirmidons is nice, but the initial investment is huge, between the tech cost and the cost for the fortresses. In an ideal game that last forever it can be worth, but usually it takes several minutes to get a decent mass of mirmidons, and even more to get back the initial investment.
    Argive Patronage need to either spawn immediately a couple of mirmidon for fortress, or some other rework. I would suggest that it also allow for mirmidons to be trained at the academy.

  • There aren’t many ways to improve greek infantry.
    Infantry is the focus of zeus, but besides the sarissa and aegis techs, as the ares is not available to zeus. Now, while both techs are solid, poseidon and hades can stack way more upgrades into toxotes or hippeus (about 3 each) besides the other free bonus that they provide. I wouldn’t mind seeing maybe some other minor god getting some upgrade for at least the hoplite.

You are right, Argive Patronage is a huge investment, and it’s not realistic to take it in a 1v1 game. I like your suggestions, but I think they should significantly reduce the cost because you can’t really use this upgrade effectively without at least 2+ fortresses, which we should consider for a base cost of the upgrade. I hope this makes sense, as you need to invest 1600 resources at a minimum before even considering the upgrade, and the upgrade itself costs 1000 resources. It’s just too slow, it takes time to get it and then even more time to gain value from it, and by then, the game would likely be over.

Hoplites should be stronger versus cavalry. I know the idea of Greek army balance is that you have general units like hoplites, toxotes, and hippikons, and then the counter units. Because of this, you can’t give the general units too large of a counter-damage bonus, but I really think it would be okay if they increased the hoplite multiplier from 1.25 to 1.5 damage against cavalry.

Argive Patronage could simply reduce the cost of Myrmidons -20% or -25% and allow them to be trained at the Academies. It could also reduce the cost of Hoplites.
