New (balanced) Arabia Map

I feel like the likelihood that arabia remains this way is slim to none. I would assume the devs will listen to pros and put more woodlines mod map again as a start, and then likely adjust berries as well.

Can we rollback to the old arabia please?

And dont forget the golrious Castle Age, that is basically limited to 3TC boom no matter what civ are you, nor your win condition. Always 3TC boom. (as a result of the vast desertification)

Where is this thinking that castle age has become 3 tc boom due to the map come from? 3 tc boom was pretty standard even on Voobly pre-DE.

I also don’t think that there is more 3 tc boom now. In the new arabia you often can basically full boom if you get a good map for your expansion. I’ve had several games with 4, 5 or even 6 tc booms.

I mean you could argue that this adds a bit of “diversity”, but tbh I consider everything above 3 tc as full boom mode and don’t differentiate anymore.

New arabia is early agression but often midgame boom with low military but defences against pressure through the center - it’s very repetitive. I wouldn’t fix it on the number of TCs, I think in this regard there is currently even more variation than in the old arabia… But for the price of repetitive gameplay, which is a terrible tradeoff.

BTW new arabia is extremly dependent on timings actually as I figured out in my games. And that doesn’t surprises if we talk about a map that became much more repetitive. Naturally timings become much more relevant in repeptitive maps. Ofc timings are always important, but the bigger the impact of timings the less options/time to “counter” the strats aligned with them. And I still believe that AOE2 is a strategy game, so it’s important to be able to prepare counters to the opponents actions. I think it’s the key part of the game as an interactive rts.

should either let 2 players out of the edge or close to edge at the same time, this is not a fair game.

Tbh I feel like the woodline itself is the least concern rn (in fact I think the back woodline feels much more safer). The front berry / gold with hills is EXTREMELY ugly tho.

My last 3 games in Arabia.
Every games opponents got a secure gold and stone with TC close to Edge, while I am totally opposite.
This map 100% sure wont be appeared in tournament, it’s super unfair.
Really don’t know what the dev’s thinking.

If you got too fair map , you also get mirror strategy too often, i remembered the game vs Clemol that i know very well and he played defensive xbows with an archer civ i don’t remember which however ethiopians ? because he was adapting to his map, while you go kts with mongols agression, not sure about your number of tc and if you get eco behind however it’s been too long. But playing agressive should not work everytime but i think your argument is not to get always forward gold but instead to get both forward or back gold for both player which make agressive vs agressive and defensive vs defensive very often :confused:

no, being force to be aggressive is totally different compare with doing aggressive intentionally.

Imagine you are playing Arena and I force you do delete all your stone walls.
Yeah, this is exactly what you are talking about, aggressive vs defensive.
But what’s the point to play an unfair game in ranking?

The developer told us that there will only one resource at the back, and what we have seen so far there are many games isnt like the case, and so many unfair matches come out.
I am not kind of full wall player but I do see a lots of people still doing full wall, probably half of the games. They could have just nerfed the building or increased the wall cost gradually. Instead of ruining the fairness completely of the map.

To me, either the resources are outside or inside, it’s fine, but I would rather prefer the setting is applied to both players instead of over half of the games I see the unfairness.

And TC position, if they want the map more open, never make the player position close to the edge, right now, another ridiculous unfairness on this.

Also the high land issue is super annoying, imagine both of your gold (or stone) are not able to place a TC. I have went through a lot of games that one side must sacrifice a lot to protect the outside stone and gold because there is no place for TC and while opponents can easily place 1 TC to protect both.

that would be great if they can really fix the bug and the often unfairness issue.

Incorrect. The previous version was a lot more wallable than the classic Arabia.

Yeah but classic arabia at least was unpredictable in most ways. Usually open but pretty fun. Sometimes woodlines close, sometimes far. The new one just features consistently bad map gens.

There is one question that bothers me since devs decided to change arabia in the previous patch.

Why? What was the reasoning behind it?
I mean one thing is to change it, but changing it so drastically without any explanation felt so weird.

And I also don’t think the current arabia is great. Ofc it’s better than the last one, but that shouldn’t be the measure.
