It’s okay you can disagree. I just propose ways to increase the possibilities for these two nations that basically have little chance. Such like the Croats and the Serbs, someone wanna gain them both since they think they are far different, but introducing just one South Slavic civ to represent them is more possible and suitable without a doubt.
Yeah, but at least Serbians and Croats are closely related culurally and neighbor each other.
Yes,but there are not so many civs that do not have a campaign…and that can be fixed in a few more dlcs…
Yes,since the Vandals had Berber military leaders in their ranks,in addition the Vikings would be very anachronistic since they never set foot in Africa and if they did,it was never before the ninth century, many centuries after Belisarius…
Of course, also the Vikings in the game is not that they are exactly good with their cavalry…
Sorry. I was referring to portuguese being added to a dlc about another continent. Makes it look like there weren’t enough african kingdoms to add.
I am personally partial to the rise and fall of Nikephoros II Phokas.
Considering for who he was regent, this might be frustrating
I’d put his reconquest of Crete in the first scenario of a Basil II campaign, while Basil is still a child
I had a campaign concept for Vikings based around Sigurd the crusader. The campaign would go like this:
-
The Galician Winter
Sigurd arrives to Galicia asking for food for hist travel to the Holy Land and fights with them against Pamplona or the Moors who are raiding Galicia. After defeating them, Galicia would rturn on Sigurd because there wasnt enough food to give to the crusaders
Other option is to just make the scenario start with the Galician betrayal, but I think that would be less interesting -
Raiders of Andalucia
Sigurd arrives to Colares, capturing the city easily. The objectives of the scenario are to prepare for a Saracen attack that will come from the south and to defeat the Lisboan Moors along with some rebels (Portuguese) -
Pirates of the Mediterranean
Arriving to the Balearic Islands, Sigurd will have to face against the Berber pirates that dominate them. In this scenario you will be pushed to raid a lot to give the ultimate Viking experience™. -
Kingdom of Jerusalem
Arriving at the holy land you will have to defend the kingdom of Jerusalem from the Turkish raiders while you wait for Baldwin I to arrive. You could also add a relic secondary objective that makes the crusaders arrive earlier -
Siege of Sidon
In this scenario you have to destroy the fortifications of Sidon while protecting the docks of your camps until the Venetians arrive. Larger scale than all the others -
(maybe) The way back home
This is the more stretchy of an already fairly fantasized campaign (I am basically using other conflicts going around at the time to add more stuff to do), you basically lead the Varangian guard against the Bulgarians. You can add some random German conflict going around if you want to push him closer to Scandinavia
Chinese/japanese / Koreans. Its mindboggling that they only have a scenario and so few apparitions even as enemies. Japanese have two historical battles, chinese 1 and koreans 1 .
Japanese could have a campaign called the Unification of Japan, so 3-4 missions for Oda Nobunaga, 1 for Hideyoshi and 1 for the battle of sekigahara as Tokugawa.
Chinese could have similarly the warring Kingdoms period, or the unification of China by the Qin kingdom in the warring states period.
Koreans definitely either the goreyo dinasty or the Japanese invasion and resistance of Admiral Yi.
Vikings could have one about Harald Hardrada, Ragnar Lothbrok , Rollone of Normandy, Sweyn and Cnut… you name it . so many possibilities. Persian could have a campaign about Apranik ( muslim conquest of persia), or the Wars between persia and the byzantine empire. Belisarius could be an option for Byzantines but i do not see them adding a campagin for a civ that has one.
They seem to be willing to add a campaign for who has a scenario tho, like Britons who have 2 and still got Edward Longshank campaign.
Qin conquered the 6 other states in the Ancient Age and 6 missions wouldn’t be enough to cover that. Alone the Zhao conquest would be more than 6 scenarios.
Well you are correct, its 230 Bc or close there, so a bit too much before aoe 2 time, that is im guessing between 476 and 1500.
We should instead find something with the Sui, Tang or Song. Ming i think they are in aoe3 if im not wrong.
I wouldnt go with the yuan since its a mongol dinasty… but maybe the conquest of Kublai Khan ? you could have the first mission with mongols and then with chinese to conquer the Song or something of that nature.
Imo I would pick Sigurd the Crusader for Vikings, Emperor Taizong of Tang for Chinese and one campaign for the Goguryeo period.
For Japan I like the late Sengoku + Imjin war campaign since it would mean that we can make them fight something else than just Japanese for six scenarios
Harald Hardrada is already in the scenario as hero unit so it might be a good option to use him.
Yeah, besides harald hardada really has travelled the world. He fought for the Rus princes, He fought for the Byzantine empire, He fought in his homelands against other norse, he fought the Danes , he Invaded england ( and lost). So many scenarios ideas and different enemies to fight, different civs . Kinda like sigurd tho.
For Japanese, i think the Imjin war might be a lil of a stretch. Its 1592- 1598, and aoe 2 should be until 1600 ish, and we have the kyoto historical battle. And besides , instead of being Japanese vs Japanese, it would be Japanese vs Koreans and Chinese. And We all know Japan lost that war
The imjin war is a massive defeat for japan and a massive victory for Korea . so i’d rather have it as Korean campaign but… again, its just barely in the time period i think.
Maybe Minamoto no Yoritomo and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate? and the invasion of mongols ! you could fight chinese and mongols and other Japanese. not bad i’d say.
It gets really bland to just fight and play as the same civ, over, and over, and over again. Hence, we don’t just want a civil war style campaign for Japan. The Inca campaign was pretty much just one civ due to regional restrictions, and that, plus the super grindy nature of it made it extremely boring for most people after the first two campaigns, where the last three were basically all the same thing. Therefore, using the Imjin war, or anything like it, would be better as either a Japanese or Korean campaign, because it adds more civ diversity. Even if it is barely in the timeline, sacrificing some historical accuracy or suitability for a more diverse and enjoyable campaign seems worthwhile.
genkou war is the best choice, fight with the mongol invasion!
Hu? The Genkō War was a civil war between the Ashikaga and Hōjō clans for the control of the Shogunate. And both Mongol Invasions would work better as historical battles, considering they were extremely short lived because of the Mongol Fleet being sunk, not in battle but because of typhoons.
- Persians- have next to no representation in the custom scenarios (except for the recent excellent Apranik campaign), and make up the region that had arguably the most variety and political turnover during the game’s timespan.
- Mayans- Have slightly more representation with custom scenarios, and “Nyctophobia” has been one of the landmark custom scenarios for decades; however, given how unique and interesting their history is, I’d love to have a more focused look.
- Chinese- There’s a metric shed load of custom content, but most of it doesn’t get translated to English. There are some gems still dating back from AoK Heaven days, but getting them to work on HD without breaking triggers is getting harder. Philthydephia’s 3 Kingdoms Trilogy of scenarios is pretty brilliant, though- do check those out.
4th choice would be Magyars. There’s definitely a lot that can be done with Hunyadi, Matthias Corvinus and the whole struggle against the Turks, while ALSO trying not to get dynastically eaten by the Habsburgs- there’s a few good-looking campaigns in the mod manager, but once again, not in English,
Slavs and Turks don’t have A TON of stuff covering them, but what they do have is typically brilliant. Shoutout to Cat_Scientist for “Princes of Russia” campaign.
Japanese, Vikings (shoutout to Phlthydelphia for his Viking cycle, and check out Ilam’s Harald Hardrada campaign in the Mod Manager, b/c it’s awesome, despite some translation quirks) , Koreans (Neky single-handedly made this probably the most covered civ since DE came out, there’s like 5 different Korean full-length campaigns now) and Byzantines (I’ve played multiple Belizarius campaigns across both DE and HD, and more are being made–and, once again- Philthydelphia’s “Komemnos” scenario is probably one of the best pieces of custom content EVER) get so much love from scenario designers I feel satisfied with what we’ve got, and they wouldn’t be my top priority.
Celts aren’t as prominent, but there’s plenty of stuff on Willam Wallace. I’d rather see a Celtilc pantheon/faction in AoM, to be honest, though a Welsh resistance campaign a la Total War: Britannia setting has potential.
