New Civ Concept Amazigh (Berbers)

Since civs like we got Byzantines and Mongols which encompass many ruling families over the course of their timeline it can make sense to generalize them as Amazigh (Berbers) rather than ‘the Almohad Dynasty’ which would probably be a variant civ.

Timeline: 711-1510

Focus: Faith, Defense, Trade

Dificculty 3/3

Bonuses:

  • Ribats (fortified mosque): Costs 200 wood combining the monastery and the outpost and is available starting from the dark age.Has 10 garrison slots and 3 relic slots. Can be upgraded with 200 stone and 100 gold doubling its already massive hp and adding 5 fire armour. Heals units inside slowly.
  • Transhumance Migration: All resource drop-off points cost 40% less to produce (30 wood each).
  • Desert Attrition: Enemies within the radius of any building that can shoot (outpost, ribat, castle) are slowed by 20% and have reduced ranged armour by 1.
  • Pastoralism: Gather 30% more from sheep but do not gather any faster
  • Sub-Saharan Trade. Traders bring back stone as well as gold.

Unique Units:

  • Marabout: A unique monk that can repair buildings and build Rabats. He rdes a horse starting in age 3.
  • Camel Raider: Acts like a high health horseman dealing bonus damage vs archers and is slightly faster than a standard camel. Has camel unease.
  • Zanata Cavalry: A lightly armoured cavalry available at the stables and archery range. They can fire whilst moving (unlike Jinetes) and have a bonus vs light at range. In melee mode they have a charged lance attack.
  • Farfanes: Like the standard knight but they are immune to camel unease.
  • Black Guard: Act as a man at arms but with a charged javelin attack that does not do bonus damage.
  • Camel Trader: Traders ride a camel.

Unique Techs:

  • Adarga shield: Increases the ranged armour of Zenata Horsemen, Camel Raiders, and Spearmen by +2

Landmarks

  • Age 1-2

    • Agdal Gardens: Acts as a resource drop of and slowly spawns beriess around it for the rest of the game.

    • Timnel Mosque: Acts as a heavily fortified mosque that comes with 15 garrison slots and comes pre stone fortified and with arrow slits.

  • Age 2- Age 3

    • Ksaar of Ait Benhaddou: An iconic fortified earthen village of the Atlas foothills. Acts as a regular town center but with more health than standard.

    • Dar al Magana: A water clock that would chime the hour of the day always maintaining 12 hours regardless of the season. It was used to coordinate prayers 5 times a day. In game it serves as a map wide healing boon similar to ‘Cistern of the First Hill’ though it can be used on any type of unit.

  • Age 3- Age 4

    • Bou Inania Madrasa: Acts as a university allowing you to research all university techs much cheaper and faster. Also adds a small gold trickle that increases for every tech researched so far.

    • Qal’at Beni Hammadid Keep: Acts as a keep and reduces the build time of walls by 30%.It must have looked more impressive back in the day when its 7 km long wall was still intact.

Yes, in Age of Empires 3 the Berbers have these units:

Unique Units

  • Berber camel rider portrait Berber Camel Rider: Berber light cavalry warrior riding a fast camel that terrifies horses. Good against cavalry and artillery. Countered by light infantry.
  • Berber nomad portrait Berber Nomad: Berber Villager that excels at gathering natural resources but is poor at agricultural gathering. Stronger and faster in groups.
  • Berber salt camel portrait Berber Salt Camel: Salty camel enraged from carrying heavy bags of salt through the desert. Constructs a Salt Mine (a Mine with 10000 gold).
  • Berber sultan portrait Berber Sultan: Hero Berber Sultan/Scout. Gains attack and hitpoints from nearby Mercenaries and Outlaws (maybe could change this for only Berber units).

And the Moroccans, these (in AoE 4 both would be a whole Berber civilization like in AoE 2)…
