The Kingdom of Benin in the area that is now modern Nigeria specifically representing the years 1180 - 1600 (their history was passed on by oral traditions so the dates are not exact) These years represent the approximate start of the kingdom of Benin with the first Oba to the point where the Obas transitioned away from directly leading their troops on the battlefield.
A controversial flag the British recovered this flag in 1897 and although it is not confirmed to be their flag it is the oldest recovered flag from the area.
