lmaooo no idea why you’re so mad and loathsome but it’s funny, alright!
None except making a historical campaign from the Nara period (794-1185) or the Gempei Wars (1185-1192) to the Siege of Osaka (1615)…
That’s true, I totally agree… first we need to give historical campaigns and battles to the civs that don’t have them yet (Abbasids, Delhi, Ottomans and Malians), then we need to cover the early middle ages (476-1066) in their totality and after that we can consider extending to other historical periods…
Anything that will market well. Japanese and Koreans are top of my list. One, Weebs love playing with Samurai. Two, Korea is the RTS capital of the world. I’m sure having themselves represented will have them play more.
Anything and everything that will increase the playerbase.
I think more civs from around the Japanese archipelago could help with that. I’d go with Emishis and maybe Ryukyuans (Okinawans’ ancestors) and some group that was ethnically Japanese but somewhat different (Satsuma maybe? Idk what they were up to in the middle ages).
Urumi Swordsman would be given to the Muvendar civilization. Chakram Thrower would be given to the Gurjaras (or Rajputs). The War Elephant needs to become a shared unit you know.
The game appears to be in survival mode. Any new civs need to attract new players, bring old players back, and keep existing players.
So rule out Europe except for the Norse/Vikings.
Also acceptable: Japanese and either the Maya or Aztecs/Triple Alliance.
Unfortunately, they scuffed up India by choosing the world’s most politically charged version of them and went so far as to assign Delhi’s elephants that peculiar and suffocating unique unit badge. So Muslim Indians it is and always will be unless the game sees at least a handful of additional civs.
Eastern Roman Empire and Japanese should be next i think. You can’t really have a game about medieval warfare without Byzantines, and for the japanese…well, everyone likes samurais
Only Norse? What about Byzantines?
Byzantines have perhaps zero curb appeal to anyone without much understanding of history, who are also known as the game’s target audience for brand new players.
But Vikings are universally cool. They have built-in branding. Everyone in the world can hear that name and close their eyes and immediately envision what this civ would look like and play like.
If your job is on the line, and you need the next DLC to sell games, then you grab the juiciest, lowest hanging fruit and cash it in.
That’s screaming Norse berserkers, mighty Japanese Samurai, and brilliant Mayan Jaguar Warriors.
You design the Byzantines or Portuguese at your peril. I’m a history nerd and would love those civs, but the game needs to hit the largest audience.
I also agree that it needs flashy and exciting civilizations
I also believe that vikings would be a great option and I say more, release it soon, I want to play kkkkk
Other cool options to launch to attract attention:
→ Aztecs, Incas, Khymer, Spaniards, Japan and even the Byzantines at some point.
→ *** Another incredible option that must be done and should attract attention are: Chola or Maratha (developers said they would add another Indian civilization, and apparently there are a lot of people in love with Indians, so one of these two should come at some point)
Regarding the issue of elephants… single unit or not. I believe that when new civilizations come that use elephants, new unique elephants will also come, but I don’t know if there will be a standard/common version, maybe there will never be a standard version.
Since each elephant could have unique stats, it’s easier to balance if each elephant is like a unique unit for each. Example:
Some elephants would be more armored;
others faster but less armored;
others don’t have crossbow upgrades just to have an extra archer;
others are equipped with a unique new weapon;
some elephant could have a new ability;
and so on (not forgetting to mention the life stats, damage, price, crafting speed that would be different).
I think Vikings could be paired with Byzantines, given the Varangian guard was a thing
That’d work basically like 3DE DLCs, which seem to pair a more famous civ with a more obscure one.
Well, truth to be told, civ choice affects whether players are interested in a game or not. The most frequent requests for AoE 4 since its launch are Japanese, Byzantines and Vikings.
Do you mean the Total War game by chance? Well, I’m not that much into the game’s setting, which is why I also don’t play Shogun Total War. I’m more into Middle Ages and Antiquity which is why I prefer Medieval 2 and Rome Total War.
AoE 4 on the other hand features civs from all over the world, so civ choice definitely affects potential customers.
You’re describing Rus.
EDIT: My bad, for some reason I thought you were suggesting to combine the two and not release them together as individual civilizations.
I didn’t say I won’t buy other games if they include Japan, I said, I’m generally not interested in the specific settings of Three Kingdoms and Shogun. That’s a big difference.
Malians was a bit of a hit and miss as most expected Ottomans to be bundled with Byzantines as both historically speaking were rivals.
