I think it’s high time to add new civilizations to the game.I have some ideas.A viking infantry based Denmark would be awesome.Imagine raiding enemy with 5 or 7 vikings which collects gold for each building or farm the destroy or villager they kill like mongols also it would be better if they throw one javelin or throwing axe before engaging in combat.Poland with their famous Winged Hussars,Castille or Spain with their famous tercios and musketeers or Italian city states like Venice Genoa or Miland which has banks or something like that that multiplies resources with interests as in Age of Empires 3.Timurids can be added as a variant of Mongols.Timur used elephants in one of his famous battle of Ankara.Timurids may have a building or palace that can be build as a wonder of 4th age that trains artillery elephants which is good against other artilleries and infantries. In Medieval 2 Total War Timur had elephant gunners and elephant artillery.I would love to see them in this game. What is your opinion about the civilizations I told?I apologize if I made any grammatical errors.
I place my bet on Vikings and Korea
Variant prediction:
English… The black prince (I hate the name but it must rival Jean de Arc and they are both in the same time period)
Rus… Republic of Novogorod
Mongols… the Golden horde
Delhi… Chalukya
Fk no no more persons as civs.Name also so stupid im not even talking about that. Also existing variants needs to be changed by taking logic as a guide.
Aztec or Maya, Khmers, and Vikings would be my top picks now.
I’m going to make a guess that the next DLC may involve the Silk Road and perhaps, add three new civs: Amazigh/Berbers, Persians, and Venetians.
There was this movie Pathfinder (2007) - IMDb
maybe they can make vikings vs native americans as a little bonus campaign. So i think a crusader state, vikings and native america civs could be added.
Variant civs are important devs pls leak what do you want to do before even starting to make it.
Golden Horde wouldn’t be different than the Mongols.Timurids should be the variant of Mongols with their elephant handcannoneers and elephant artillerries.
As long as we don’t get another civ like JdA, everything is fine.
I personally would like to see Tatars variant civ for Mongols (based on Kazan and Crimean Khanate), that would be mix of Mongol and Ottoman civs, less aggressive and with available defenses (walls, keeps). Only problem is that variant civs use their respective sound dialogue, while it is Mongol variant (speak Mongolian), Tatars spoke in Turkic languages.
They have officially announced that a DLC for next year is in the making!
I can think of several civs, although if we are going to theorize for 2025, let’s consider the precedents:
Useful Civs for campaign
Like all normal DLC, it has to come with a campaign. Because the kingdoms of a place usually sought conflicts with their neighbors, it is normal to introduce new civs that have a relationship with the main campaign civ.
In the “Sultans Ascends” campaign, for example:
-
You control variants of the Abbasids: such as Seljuks, Ayyubids and Mamelukes. As an addition to the game, the “Ayyubid” variant Civ then arises.
-
One of the cities in the campaign uses Byzantine structure models (the Crusader kingdoms occupied a land that originally belonged to this empire). So it is necessary to add Byzantines.
-
Many of the enemies in the campaign are Crusaders, although they use architecture, models and landmarks from France, the English and the HRE. The Mongols are also there, so nothing to add.
So, giving some examples of campaigns:
- Reconquista Campaign (Spanish).- Apart from Spanish, you could include Portuguese, Kingdom of Morocco, Al-Andalus.
- Delhi Sultanate Campaign (Delhi).- Apart from Delhi, which is already there, you would have to include Hindu civs like Chola / Muvendar, Vijayanagara, Rajputs, Odessa.
- Ming Chinese Campaign (China).- As I understand it, the Ming fought against the Mongols, Japanese (Wukou pirates and Hideyoshi army), Vietnamese, Sri Lanka, and Portuguese.
- Ottoman Campaign (Ottomans).- Ufff, the Ottomans fought against half the world. I think we should wait for more civilizations to give them a campaign. Technically they fought against: Spain, Papal States, Venice, Genoa, Florence (Tuscany), Hungary, Poland-Lithuania, Bulgaria, Wallachia, Moldavia, the Order of the Dragon, Rus, the Cossacks, Mamluk Sultanate, Persia (Safavids), Algeria and Tunisia, Sultanate of Morocco, Kanem-Bornu, etc.
I am with you with all of that, but then you got Japan, which was in the DLC, but nothing had to do with the campain.
I am pretty sure they’ll just add the most required civs, in this case Vikings (danes, norws) is a must, and Spain could do the same job.
Now the series is more about gameplay and how much people like it than focusing on historical accuracy
Sassanid (224-651), vikings (500-850) I think the possibility has become higher
Of course, the Spanish and Aztecs are the most likely candidates
Seljuks were the ancestor of Ottoman Empire so they should be the variant of Ottoman empire without janissaries and great bombard. But they dont have any noteworthy troops.Their known troops are Yayas and Müsellems which has no significant difference than the basic units of the game.
No. You are wrong. Is not like that at all
That is happening because AoE I is now embedded into AoE II client. This has started with the Return of Rome DLC that brought AoE I to II DE engine + plus new content for that timeframe
On the other hand AoE IV is quite well represented as medieval as what is now!
Hello people, I hope you are all very well There is speculation on Reddit and YouTube that one of the new civilizations would be from the American continent. The theory is based on the mini spoiler of the last patch.
What is the Atacama map?
The Incas? Regardless of whether they are the Incas or the Aztecs, it is assumed that the other civilization would be the Spanish but possibly in 2 variants (Kingdom of Castile and Kingdom of Aragon).
This theory is also reinforced by what a user found in the game editor files some time ago.

Remember that this is just a theory of people, greetings.
Yes of course, Atacama Desert map has made a gimmick on that matter
Incas and Spanish would be a nice addtion to the game
Nice catch bro!
They are horse archer heavy civ, with light raiding horseman.
What about a new Egyptian civ featuring chariots almost like the Delhi sultanate have elephants. also, better technologies.
Chariots weren’t used anymore in this era, at least around the mediterranean. And the Ayyubids are the sultans of Egypt.
