I had a couple Civs in mind that could be featured together in an expansion: the Venetians and the Majapahit Empire. The Vijaynagara Empire could be a third full civ, without variants in the pack.
I would have called the DLC: “The Spice must Flow”
Consider the Italian city-states were massive Mercantile states, and Majapahit was the source of all the SPICE.
So the whole maritime trade theme would fit perfectly. And ofcourse, Dune referense lol.
Idea is great though, love it, very well thought out on matching up the very different civs into a package.
Do feel like the Italian city states are going to end up being more of a Variant-civ than anything. With an Hindustanic Indian Empire and Majapahit being 2 new civs.
Vijayanagara Empire would NOT be a variant of the Delhi Sultanate because the Delhi Sultanate was a Persianized Islamic empire that came from North India while the Viayanagara Empire was a Dravidian Hindu empire that came from South India but however, there could most certainly be a campaign that involve battles between the Vijayanagara Empire and the Delhi Sultanate.
Delhi Sultanate civilisation could be redesignated into Indian HIndu civilisation, it is one option.
To have Vijayanagara Empire being own civilisation (option 2) would be better.
Anyway, I do not say, it should like this, it is just my suggestion
Ok. I understand it was just a suggestion. Now if a variant of the Delhi Sultanate was to be added, I do imagine something like the Ghaznavids being the variant for example.
Would love to see southeast asian civilization. A hindu civ is also lacking in the game currently. AoE4’s done a nice job with portrayal of religion and culture, so that would be lovely to see next.
Perhaps the Majahapit Empire would be a division of AoE2’s Malay much like how the Abbasid Dynasty is a division of AoE2’s Saracens, Delhi Sultanate being a division of AoE2’s Hindustanis, and Ottomans being a division of AoE2’s Turks.

I don’t know why they would go with tiny empires that no one knows when everyone is asking for: vikings, aztect, khmer, spain.[/quote]
the vikings are most requested new civ now, after byzantines and japanise being added
the other cultures like subjective,
someone asks for Khmer, someone for Magyars, someone asks for other civs
The dude asks here for Indonesia, which Majahapit from my suggestions, (or Malay in AoE2)
I do not understand the term division here, AoE4 uses better “naming” or “terminology” than AoE2
but yes,
Abbasid Dynasty in AoE4 are Saracens in AoE2. French in AoE4 are Franks in AoE2, Holy Roman Empire in AoE4 are Teutons in AoE2 etc
and Malay in AoE2 are based on Majahapit Empire too, which could be candidate for AoE4 civ
Not really sure it’s an umbrella thing, AOE2 named civs after cultures while AOE4 named them after states and that frequently was effectively the same thing, though not always.
While here’s the thing: AoE2’s Saracens don’t just represent the Abbasids but also other Arab empires as well including pre-Islamic Arab empires that existed during the early medieval period. AoE2’s Hindustanis don’t just represent the Delhi Sultanate but also other North Indian empires as well like the Ghaznaids, Ghorids, and Mughals. AoE2’s Turks don’t just represent the Ottomans but also other Oghuz Turkish empires like the Seljuks. So, AoE2’s Malay don’t just the Majahapit Empire but also other empires of the Malay peninsula like the Malacca Sultanate and Singhasari. All this is due to the fact that a lot of AoE2’s civs are more broad with representation of an ethnic group than in AoE4.
for example, in the case of Turks in AoE2, their unique unit - Janissary fits the Ottoman era, but not Seljuks, The Teutonic Knight represent specific the Teutonic Order, not the medieval germans
Abbasids in AoE4 do same thing as Saracens in AoE2 - to represent medieval Arabs
