I swear Warcraft 1 and 2 was sprite work and those are RTSs at least but ill read
Im not denying they are sprites but they all were 3d models initially that were made in to sprites.
strange why do that backwards spiriting if it was make a 3d model first? Do custom sprites for mods back then need 3d model work? How did the average joe do model work back then without a blender?
Why do you keep using !!?!?! and CAPS that sounds like you are shouting at someone.
Also you claim early games were sprites. The current game is still sprites afaik.
AoE1 and AoE2 have always been pre-rendered games and will always be (I believe at least)
AoM, AoE3 and AoE4 are rendered in real time.
Because not all computers back then could render in real time.
Pre-DE they didn’t need fully 3D models. And before Blender there were other 3D modelling programs.
Also pre-rendered as far as I know.
3d max was there before blender and pretty much all the completely new units were made with 3d programs.buildings you could make via photoshop or something similar as it was just one image.
- new broken, new useless units
It will be a return of Rome style DLC but for the French revolution. All social media posts lead to this conclusion
DOI steambd file hanged around for almost 3 months. So the DLC may still come out in April.
They were busy with porting AoE2DE to console and then porting the whole game of AoE1 to AoE2DE.
The last DLC was certainly way less work for them. Yeah Mule Carts are a new mechanic probably not that complicated to code in.
Could also very well be that parts of the team were already preparing multiple DLC worth of content while the engine team was working on the console port.
Making a new civilisation is not that much programming work. Most of them only offer like 1 new mechanic and some of those mechanics don’t even need new code.
Most of that work is testing, balancing and hopefully some historical research.
So less then 6 months between small 2 civilisation 3 campaign DLCs doesn’t seem to be that unrealistic.
No.
Why?
How?
AoE1 and AoE2 were using different versions of the same engine so it made sense to port AoE1 to AoE2.
RoR is still AoE1, it is not an Ancient themed AoE2. It just has gates and land trade now but everything else is like it always used to be.
There is no 2D Napoleonic Era AoE game. AoE3 is a completely different game with completely different mechanics that would not work in the AoE2 engine at all.
The AoE2 engine is generally not well suited to handle this time frame in my opinion.
In case this is sarcasm, I’ll be ranting for free, but here I go anyway.
Sure, great idea. Then how do you match people online between those who does have this DLC and those who doesnt? Welcome to Age of Pay-To-Win?
It’s either a cosmetics DLC to be released in the next month or so, or the next civ DLC that should be released in late April or May based on previous experience.
It’s not a civilization dlc as no new hidden achievements in the game yet. I expect this is the surprise dlc they promised for this year.
I wouldn’t put too much stock in that. We have had these files pop up long before the hidden achievements do before.
Hidden Achivements only appear a few weeks before DLC-s
What if it is a DLC for RoR/AoE1? New civs and campaign is added on AoE1.
The end of the year anouncment was about sometihng we will never guess. The first post on social media was this
most likely imperial age franks fighting each other.
then later this:
what would you do? Answer could be a revolution, so that the dark age pesants fight against the castle.
and finaly this:
An event in the time of the french revolution made with AOE2 units.
Neither of the player is Franks as they have neither SO nor Arbalester.
It’s a TC.
Are you trying to be a troll?
Franks don’t get Arbalester, so red isn’t Franks.
It’s a Town Centre foundation, not a castle. Also, that’s not what a revolution is.
This one I’ll grant you. Also, why didn’t they us hussars for this shot, instead of cavaliers, light cavalry, and a steppe lancer? Weird.
Since when can Franks train Arbalesters?
There is no Castle. It’s a Persian Dark Age TC rush.
Yes that’s the one Tweet that actually fits in there.
The big question is still “Why?”
Why would you want to make a new game in an awful >25 years old engine?
Every sane person would use a modern engine even if they want to make a 2D game.
Unity has pretty good build in support for 2D games.
The other problem is that RoR is almost dead already. Almost no one plays it.
And that was just porting an already existing game with an already existing fan base. They had to do almost no new unit models. Only trader, female villager, 2 heroes and then repaint 3 units to have more/less gold on them.
They even only added 1 new civilisation.
Making an entirely new game with entirely new models is a lot lot more work. And it will likely be something that would be less popular.
And did you hear of AoE3? It’s a pretty cool game, you should try it out.
It even features the French Revolution as a game mechanic with multiple unique features and units.
