Only campaigns? yeah, not buying it.
let me translate
its a new year and time to test water to see how many would pay for campaign only DLC when it shoulda been part of main game even if some civs have 0 campaign blah blah
I would definitely pay for a campaigns only DLC.
I am playing almost exclusively campaigns since 2019, and I bought civ only expansions of AoE3. I would buy anything AoE haha (excluded icons DLC)
EDIT: I wonder what is “exclusive gameplay”
Don’t really care about multiplayer, tournaments and all that jazz so more campaigns, civs for AoE3 and even AoM news are good enough for me.
Looking forward to it all.
TBH, I believe it is nothing to be exciting. Probably game devs will just play 1st mission of all the new campaigns and stream part of them.
Most probably a play through of a scenario in the new campaigns.
was this the “you’ll never guess thing” cause I’m pretty sure tons of people not only guessed this, but have been asking for this for a while
I loved it! I was always thinking why we still don’t have a campaign only DLC and now it is official. I am not sure if the new campaigns will be only 3. Maybe more because it is a campaign-only DLC.
Campaigns for Turks, Chinese and Japanese is a must and these probably be the first 3 campaigns of this DLC. And maybe another “single battles” type campaign?
I forgot AoE II Romans civ which also doesn’t have a campaign.
Yeah, that’s been the point of a few threads. But I’m glad that at least in this case they seem to have erred on the side of listening to the playerbase instead of creating unguessably weird content that nobody asked for.
But I suppose one could consider it mildly surprising in the sense that campaign only DLCS have never been done before in AoE2, despite them being common in many other RTS games.

You got it correct.
It is a positive thing though. If they get profit from campaign DLC, that will only bring positive outcome for the game in the long run.
those campaigns gotta be hela worth it with superb story/quality and details etc. otherwise they might release civ DLCs without much campaigns going forward and have them released as separate DLC since people will be buying it
just outta know our action can lead to unwanted consequences and from their business perspective, the more they can take away while charge the same is always a plus for them and minus for us.
tldr: what we might pay for 1 DLC to include civ + campaign might be paying for 2 gonig forward, civ or campaign and not both
I’m secretly hoping a water rework. New water building(s) as originally planned, ships, balance and what not.
looking from the financial side it would be for sure and I think if this goes well they might continue with this trend and really split campaigns from civs DLC.
the players who pay for civs DLC (lots of ranked players and MP) dont care as much as SP when comes to campaign, they likely pay even with campaign missing just to gain access to the civs.
where as campaign players may not pay for civ DLC if there are no campaign. they might really maximize profit with this while reducing overall effort on each civ DLC and hopefully put the rest of the time into bug fixing.
“campaign focused”
Maybe it’s a 1 civ DLC but with more and or longer campaigns.
Maybe new campaign “features” in the form of new campaign only mechanics, units and buildings.
Or maybe something wild like the opposite of a coop campaign.
A campaign where you play against other players.
Finger crossed on both.
Any new updates? Speculation?
The event is in a week so people are just waiting.
Don’t think they will give us any teasers before that.
They mentioned its just campaign dlc… so not surprised if new dlc just dropped
My heart is broken. I hope they have us in the first half.
