New dlc manor problem

So devs took 2 english house and turned one of them then put it next to other and called it manor.

Real life manor examples:

Devs pls make a model for manor i think you guys can make one building model easily.

they choose the lets be lazy/cheap way, meaning dlc profit margin grows, its honestly sad how much of aoe4 was handled this way, despite each civ having its own architecture and what not, variant civs are also a way to sell civs for less dev effort

Haven’t we had this discussion already?

I can go outside and take a picture of three sets of gates in three houses that look identical. Architecture from the same period tends to repeat (and in some cases is designed by the same person).

What would a manor look like? What are the quantifiable features of a manor?

I would love to know the non-lazy way to make a manor building that fits within the existing architectural style, bearing in mind it makes zero sense for the House of Lancaster to have its own architecture set.

Are you a rat working with devs? or Are you a dev?

I asked a question. A few, even. Can you give an answer without making it personal please?

you can still make a unique model for the manor that still fits existing architecture instead of copy pasting a house side by side in 2 different orientations, like with that catapult tower for example, that one is unique, this isn’t

not an issue, gorb knows me better than almost anyone on here, thats not how he works, i think you just need a bit of studying in art of diplomacy to dodge obvious bullets better

Bro we didnt had a discussion about this before.(for this dlc)

Just google the english manor and pick the logical one then make a model of it and add it to game.

You can. Why should you? A manor house is, quite literally, a house.

And again. I’m asking - if you can, what would it look like? How would you differentiate it from existing buildings (like a TC for example)?

These are not hard questions. Surely?

Didn’t you post about exactly this and complain about getting scammed? I read it.

Do you . . . know how many manor houses exist in England? Have existed? Were around at the time the House of Lancaster was ascendant?

You didnt answer there and somebody sugested me to open a post about it so i did.

Well devs should pick one and start working on it.

Which one? How do they know they’re picking the “right” one? How do you know they’re not?

I cannot overemphasise how many different manors have existed. Some are big, grandiose Landmark-style buildings. Some are oversized houses. Some are multiple houses “stuck” together (depends on how many wings it is / when it was built / if it was built in stages).

You’re complaining about asset re-use in an example where asset re-use makes sense.

If this was a Landmark, I’d agree. But it’s not!

An ongoing conversation is opinion being “brutally suppressed”? I’m not sure you understand how to tolerate opinions that aren’t an echo chamber.

All I’m trying to understand is how the devs can achieve what the OP wants, as a Brit with more than a passing knowledge of medieval England. Do you know how many manor houses I’ve visited?

Some don’t want to be replied to by people who disagree.

Some want to make a suggestion and have it be taken seriously. Some want to shape the game through their input, which is why they have defensive reactions to feedback on their opinions.

They see it as an attack and a reduction of their viewpoint. I just wouldn’t bother, it creates too much conflict to engage on anything other than a superficial level.

Edit: if you find yourself identifying with this statement and feel like I’m taking the piss, please understand it’s only directed at those who would become defensive in response to a conflicting opinion. Namaste

Any of them they can pick just let us see its a unique building for that civ.

Would you be equally nitpicking a thread about “the devs did a really good job on …”?

You won’t. Because the devs ALWAYS do a good job.

Oh my god. What a great new discovery about humanity.
Glad to know you DON’T want your suggestion to be taken seriously. And that’s how I suggest everyone else treat you too.

Nobody will lose anything if the devs do a little work that makes the models more unique or the company be honest about their products.
If there is anything that could be lost, it would be no other than someone’s salary.

I don’t think anyone here needs to be educated “a manor is basically a combination of houses”. And we all know it is not your real purpose to educate people.
Because there are a thousand other house designs you can put into “a combination of houses” instead of copying the existing ones.

Let me ask you professional apologists a serious question: what would you lose if the devs make two new different house models?

Most buildings in the game are an amalgamation of several buildings by the way.

You can see multiple reused assets here between buildings. There’s actually a very basic palette that gets used for non unique buildings.

The only things that get a unique design are landmarks. That design language is to communicate ideas for gameplay rather than maintain realism, a necessary compromise for a video game.

I didn’t say it was a sophisticated opinion. I think it’s a rudimentary approach that is unlikely to succeed. I think it lacks curiosity and represents an ardent perspective incapable of communication and compromise.

It is fundamentally incompatible with reasonable discourse.

Which is not good. Especially for paid DLCs.

You just sold the best selling DLC. Do better.

Define “necessary”

I can move the goalpost all day. For example, all units regardless of the ethnicity all use the same European models is also a necessary compromise. Oh wait someone already said that for AOE2.

And I believe you would consider unique unit models a great improvement over AOE2.

And again the real question is: what would you lose if they make a few more models?

In what way is the manor house not a new model?

Because it uses models and textures used in other places? Like, identically?

This is the same across the entire game.

Food for thought:

If they made this over the course of months what result do people expect a paltry 2 weeks before release.
