From what I observed of the old terrain rendering, it appeared to work by rendering the ground to a texture and projecting that onto the terrain. This is a similar idea to how Google Earth projects satellite images onto terrain. The limitations of this approach is that the resolution of the ground textures is ultimately limited by the resolution of the satellite image and any detail in cliffs gets lost in the top-down texture projection.
The new approach skips this step and samples directly from the ground textures. For example, a pixel will sample directly from the grass or dirt texture instead of from the "satellite " texture. It also means that cliff textures can use triplanar mapping to be projected sides-ways onto cliffs instead of only top-down.
With that said, this is speculation based on what I observed, but it does seem to align with the PUP notes. If it is the case, then this approach is just for terrains and a different approach will be needed for buildings. Perhaps increasing the resolution of the building textures or adding a second bump map texture at a higher UV scale to add small details.
im confused about your point here, u sayin aoe3 WAS well recieved on launch? bruh literally the game was bugged to the ground even if they managed to fix it.
Im an aoe3 player elitist after all, it was my first aoe game ive ever played also and i know how was the state of the game when it launched. It was very bad.
player at leats got the og game if the de version dont work well so thats why the backslash was not infuirating as aoe 4. You can still play aoe 3 servers
not really. 15k coming from the patch which is low comparing to real resurrector in playerbase like the days when aoe 4 went free (last one it rise up to 26k). Also recently the numbers has been decreasing from +200 players gain to +95 according to steamcharts (as always)
I donât think it matters if AoE4 ever âeclipsesâ AoE2. Itâs not a competition, all the people trying to make it one are silly.
I also think the only way it ever would is by adding a lot more single player/coop content.
I do agree that the âhatersâ are usually wasting their time. Look how often the guy just below you for example, who is supposedly an AoE fan, makes negative comments and never says anything of substance here (or on any of the other AoE gamesâ forums).
Dude this is not a competition between games in the series. All the games have their player bases and a lot of players really like AoE 2 and I donât see them moving from it which is fine. People need to stop this nonsense of â only this game I like is good the others are bad â or â the old games need to disappear and be replaced.â Just play whichever game in the series you enjoy the most and donât needlessly bash the other games. Construction criticism or a legitimate complaint is different.
Yeah, Iâm just tired of this. Constructively criticising the game for missing features or design choices you donât like is one thing, saying that you hope game A will completely replace game B is another.
This btw also applies to AoE 2 (or any other Age) players who want to make AoE 4 look âbadâ with odd arguments.
Agreed, itâs gotten worse from the AoE 4 side, AoE 2 players I donât see to often on the other game sections they stick to their area for the most part it seems, so not sure what they are saying about AoE 4 right now or maybe they just ignore it, I donât know.
