You’ll get haters in the AoE2 subreddit any time AoE4 is mentioned in any way. Same with any time someone like Viper plays AoE4, some of his “fans” lose their shit.
You’ll get a couple in the AoE4 subreddit, but they usually get downvoted.

We’re lucky in a series that most games are constantly supported.

Similar picture in Steam where some people only “played” the game for an hour or so in the stress test and base their entire opinion around it.
Imo instead of having this weird rivaly, players should rather show their favourite Age title to each other and explaining them how you play the game and why you like it.

The difference that may be skewing your perception is that we’re in the Age IV subforum. So people tend to like it more and will on average defend it more. The same as Age III in its subforum, and so on.
You’re absolutely right about constructive criticism, but an awful lot of recent “criticism” in this thread alone hasn’t been that.
That’s why I said I don’t know what the age 2 players are saying because I don’t see them around here much. I’ve just noticed an increase of hostility towards the other age games in the AoE 4 section where I didn’t use see that before. I play age 3 so most of the players over there are used to getting dumped on unfairly a lot so they don’t tend to do it towards the other games.
I think they’re mostly active on reddit or Aoe Zone.
Typically, some AoE 2 players say that AoE 4 is “bad” because it removed archer micro while ignoring that AoE 4 has a lot of different micro going on while vice-versa AoE 4 players criticize AoE 2 for having dodgable arrows while ignoring that this won’t matter that much for the average player once you’ve researched Ballistics.
Nah, I play in 4k, full settings and it’s still pixelated. It’s like it’s rendered at a lower resolution than your actual resolution. In fact, if you change the render scale the first thing you see getting even worse is the grass.
AA on it would look oh so much better.
You do realize that a lot of those “haters” which have been for the most part pointing out valid issues with the game are one of the main reasons AoE4 has improved in the first place, right?
So no, for the critics it hasn’t been a waste of time, if anything, upgrades to the graphics, civs and mechanics validate their complaints.
God forbid we had a forum with only fanboys raining praise on the game. It doesn’t work like that. There are real haters and I’ve seen them, but few and far between.
The beautiful thing about the AoE franchise is all the games offer unique experiences to varying degrees and that means they can all coexist without “replacing” one another. This isn’t your typical franchise like Call of Duty or whatever where the newest iteration isn’t that much different from the previous one sans the setting. The AoE franchise is really unique in this regard and people should appreciate it more instead of tearing the games they don’t like down, especially when they haven’t played them.
The whole not being able to dodge arrow thing was just like, So, whatever.
Yep, after all the games aren’t called Age of Empires 2K23 or similar where online services for the last game are shut down the moment the new game releases 
Maybe they should start naming the AOE games with the setting like Total War games not a series number.

Well there are people in here that are constantly hating and have said they don’t even play aoe4, but are supposedly AoE fans. Not sure if that means AoE2 or which, because they don’t post over there at all.
I think this is going to happen the more established IV gets.
Not saying I like it, but it’s the identity of a fan of a game thing. I see it often enough from AoE II and III posters. A lot of folk enjoy the franchise as a whole, but more than a few take their favourite to mean others are bad.
In my opinion, of the regular posters, it’s actually the opposite. Naming names negatively gets us nowhere, but let’s just say I value the difference between posters like you and Achronic, and various other active posters. This is not a criticism of you or Achronic 
Reactions to “real haters” shouldn’t be discounted, even if it contributes to generalisations. Much like with discussion of the game itself. If you want the game to take its issues seriously, we shouldn’t handwave the community side either.
True as games get their base this will happen. Honestly I don’t see many AoE 3 players hating on 4, most complaints I’ve seen from that player base is things like AoE 4 having wonder age up and unit throw torches at buildings among other things that the developers were acting like they were new but were done in 2005.
I tend to ignore both extremes. Neither adding anything constructive to a forum and a game you want to see improve.
I’m actually impressed so far at how the devs have improved the game and reacted to feedback (although the zero communication from them is still baffling).
I admit by now I’d have thought AoE4 to be wringing every last cent out of our pockets with paid DLCs and skins or simply abandon the game due to less-than-expected player numbers. I mean, this is by no means a No Man’s Sky comeback story and some of the things we are seeing should have DEFINITELY been included/ironed out in the game at release but credits to what I assume is a not-too-large dev team working so hard to get these things done.
What needs to happen is to mix new content with bug fixing and engine improvements. Alternate PUPs between each area. This is what Asobo is doing with MSFS with their Sim Updates (technical) and World Updates (content).
Speculation… Age 2 DE is pretty strong AOE IV still needs a lot of content and quality/ game.olay changes to reach age 2 levels.
Regarding haters, That doesn’t matter, what matters is player numbers, age 2 doubles player numbers of aoe IV, so age 2 is most successful until now. Why AOE IV has less players than aoe2 when AOE IV is a “new” game, the answer couldbe difference for each person, IMO age 2 is a better and more complex game overall that attracts more strategy players, the game also offers more conten. Do I am a hater? Or someone that simple look at facts.
Ahh I remember being one of the first complaining about poor graphics and graphics comparison with x019 trailer, finally They acknowledged the criticism while some people here all the time were saying that graphics don’t matter lol, someone was incorrect for sure.
I don’t think that actually matters either. Both games have plenty of players. It’s not a competition. AoE4 made more money than AoE2 DE, who cares?
Neither game is a failure, not even relative to each other, they’re both doing well enough.
