Not just you. (Or him):
Clearly the Christmas tree and presents are hidden, presumably at the North Pole, or on a forest nothing map, and are not to be opened until Christmas. Either that, or this will be one of those heartwarming reveals that the real Christmas presence is not material or virtual goods, but the friends that we made along the way™
There are reasons for pessimism, and I think we’ve been at the stage for a while where hype needs to be earned back before it’s assumed. However, the new app/achievement & updated files have been pretty consistent indicators of an imminent(ish) DLC. Even apart from that, what I keep coming back to is that it would seem like a colossal blunder to have nothing to show for either of the upcoming anniversaries. Not that a colossal blunder is out of the question, but it seems like something that they would very purposefully try to avoid after the blunder of V&V. And again, unless they massively underestimated the scope of AoM:R, they’ve had the time to come up with something good by now.
I have my issues with RoR, but one of the big draws for me was the improved QoL and especially triggers. I understand people wanting the original campaigns ported, but there’s just so much more going on in the new AoE2-style campaigns. Other than that, I agree that RoR should have had more to offer (better balance, new units like a heavy camel, UTs, shared assets across modes, etc).
