New surprise DLC on 25th anniversary?

Yeah, I forgot about TLK.

Coming soon to Age of Mythologies.

I would not at all be surprised if they announce it right after the Red Bull Wololo finals conclude

I dunno. They have never done that before.

I doubt they would reveal/release one mid-way through either, but right after? Never happened.

Perhaps they will reveal it on the 25th Anniversary day, with the release date after Red Bull Wololo?

That would be one heck of a birthday present.

They did one before, announced a bunch of different stuff for each AoE game. So I wouldn’t be surprised if there was another one.

LoTW was released 1 day after RBW event, right?

Two days, but yep. It was RBW 3 in question which concluded on 24th January 2021:

Well remembered.

Still, other viable dates first, so let’s see what manifests then, if anything.

I was in the Age of Mythology subredit and saw that Cysion, one of the developers from Forgotten Empires was commenting there. I was curious what else he might have said the last couple of days and then I saw this post of him:

He might really like Japanese architecture, or it might be research for an upcoming DLC (AoE II or Mythology).
(The direct link to the post will get censured here)

I feel bad about sharing this, I respect someone privacy.

Bro posted it on Reddit, I don’t think he’s too worried about it lol.

I am hoping that’s either for an AOE 2 architecture revamp or that they’re looking for some inspiration for the AOM Chinese (though why woudl they be looking at Japanese for that?) If the two AOM new civs are China and Japan i’ll be rather annoyed; i’d rather one be China and the other be a completely different part of the world from E. Asia

Just did some more digging in the V&V level hints and scouts section. Looked at Kommenos, Seljuk, Mystislav, Finehair, Stephen, Drake, Ragnar and Constantine XI.

There were changes here and there, but all followed two patterns:

  • Correcting grammatical errors. There were not many, about 3 total.
  • Making gameplay clearer. This was stuff like adding in ages certain units were available if they were unusual. But again, not many. And also there was Ragnar being totally re-written…but that’s because the style was far too different from a normal AoE2 level and it was pretty incomprehensible what was going on.

So in total, there were 0 changes that had anything to do with the background of the situation, the history etc.

It might just be from a holiday he had?

This entire thread reminds me of Super Smash Bros fans looking at every post series director Masahiro Sakurai was making for clues as to who the next fighter was. Often times, the posts just meant nothing and weren’t hints.

Yeah. Those often felt a bit creepy and probing into his private life.

There’s no way they would keep a secret, only for the guy in charge to accidentally reveal it like that.

Plus he says he took the photo himself in the title. It’s just a holiday pic. No need to be weird about this everyone, leave him be.

I mean, I think he knows people know his profile and that his likes are public (I’m assuming Reddit gives you the option to make them private?), so I don’t believe he minds.

Since some certain time point (I cannot figure out when exactly), their marketing and communication have turned really cringe.

Yes, they had already announced it with the premium version… it is the Chinese in the first DLC in December and then a new pantheon still unannounced (Aztecs, Babylonians or Japanese) in 2025…

Yes, if it’s worldwide it would be “World Empires” and if it’s centered on China, “Dragon Empires” lol…

It’s an allusion to Rise of Rome and “Return” is because we’re going back to the days of AoE 1…

Rule #1 of the Internet: Once you post something on it, it’s no longer private…

Don’t remind me…the VaV Viking missions are so very boring, like “raid this to gather villagers and resources to create troops to continue raiding”…when I completed them I felt more relieved…I was really exhausted…

The (numerous) Viking levels were made worse by them being…well Vikings. Such a slow civ militarily. At least Temujin and Seljuk have you using all cavalry.

Sure, the Vikings raided, but then they returned to their bases, expanded and then when they ran out of resources they raided again, but in AoE 2 the gameplay is very slow and boring, especially when you have to attack large cities by sea like Paris and the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms or North Africa and the transport ships can’t hold more than 10 or 20 troops and you only have a population limit of 30… with nomadic tribes at least it’s faster and more dynamic since they are large steppes and plains on horseback…

Even then tho it feels un-polished, at least with Temujin (after vortigern and temujin I was so dis-satisfied with how un-poished the scenarios felt I stopped playing them). Villagers would automatically appear after destroying houses, but horses you had to return to get your mangudai. I’m fine with either. If you want your scenario to be more convenient, then have mangudai and villagers automatically appear. If you want to go for a more ludo-narrative approach, require everything to return to your basecamp. But the half and half really just didn’t work for me. It was the worst of both worlds.

And then after you get access to the great tent and elite mangudai, any horses you bring back still become regular mangudai.

Hopefully DLC 5 is an actually polished experience.
