New surprise DLC on 25th anniversary?

Nope, sorry, just Celts, Mongols, and Vikings. Source: Age 2 Design Document:

You’re right. I found a topic on the forums where someone mis-quoted an interview with Brian Shelley. They’d said Goths were included in that list of raider civs, but if you actually look at the source they linked in their post, Goths are not included in that list.

I should have checked the original source.

I was more thinking about Goths pointing toward either a Central European themed dlc (please no) or a Late Antiquity/Early Middle Ages one with maybe RoR content in a bundle.

That would be an interesting opportunity to add civs like the Khazars and Avars. We’ve already had Hunnic representation in the posts, and they are very similar to the Avars. Keep an eye out for Cuman representation later, as they seem to be the current rep for the Khazars.

I was thinking more Vandals and Alans, as they have been represented by Huns, Vikings and Goths in various campaigns.

I seeeee.

So assuming these posts mean anything at all I guess there are three theories atm.

Central Euro Late Antiquity/Early MIddle Ages tease, in which case we’d expect the Goths to be next.

Raider Civ tease, in which case Mongols or celts are the most likely to be next, tho maybe magyars, tatars or some others could also be construed to fit.

Sequential DLC tease, in which case we’d expect Incas, Italians, Magyars, or Slavs to be next.

To put some numbers to the central euro late antiquity/early middle ages civ theory, picking 1 of the 3 civs Is about an 6.67% chance, and then subsequently picking another is a combined .3% chance.

However there’s about a 3% chance of setting out to do the sequential dlc tease, but picking goths or vikings, then subsequently huns.

Lastly there’s a 33.3% chance of randomly picking two of goths, huns, and vikings, but doing so in release order.

So yeah, super excited to see what the next civ is, assuming we get another civ.

Ooh, ooh, good one. The Alans could have access to the Fortified Church and Mule Cart, and if the devs are choosing to create a new Caucasus architecture set (which I hope they are) to rectify the disappointing Mountain Royals, it could be given to the Alans.

I would be only half happy about a European DLC again, especially if central or nomadic Europe (I would prefer a new Balkan civ).
But Tuesday is Chinese mid autumn festival, please MS hear the community :sob:

Or pontic, since the alans were christianized by the Byzantines.

Isn’t it weird that he didn’t talk about elephant hand cannoneer?

Yes, it’s pretty weird, as that was the first thing to come to mind for me.

IDK. Unless someone leaked it to SOTL, IDK how SOTL would know and if this was some part of a MS tease and hype campaign I’d think multiple creators would be putting out videos that were related to upcoming DLC.

SOTL definitely has made sillier videos from time to time, the mill video comes to mind. but that was an aprils fools thing. He’s also made special effort to include will cartoon elephants for elephant facts in previous videos. I think he’s got a soft spot for elephants.

Also in the video description “I wish I’d thought of this in time for World Elephant Day on August 12, but better late than never!”

That being said, this seemed pretty out of the blue and got weird at the end. weirder and for longer than he typically goes. Also no mention of a bombard elephant. He draws special attention to filling out elephant siege then doesn’t mention the more reasonable bombard elephant but does mention mangonelephant and trebephant.

Admittedly no mention of a siege tower elephant but the siege tower is a meme w/o an elephant.

No elephant monk either.

He also says in the video description he’s pitching his “12 best ideas” and I just have to believe that Elephant cannoneer, bombard elephant, and elephant monk are vastly superior to an elephant galley and elephant cavalry archer.

My gut says this is just SOTL living his best elephant appreciating life, but yeah I admit it was quite unusual.

The Elephant Cannoneers and Elephant-riding Monks would be nice to be the UUs of Siamese, but I don’t believe the East Asian DLC would have the Siamese. I mean they deserve to be introduced but in the Southeast Asian DLC with the Chams rather than with Khitans and Jurchens.

Technically, that’s in the game already.

No, not an elephant archer, an archer on an elephant.

An elephant cavalry archer, a cavalry archer on an elephant

Just watch the video. You won’t regret it.:rofl::rofl:

I have, very surreal.

That’s terrible news. The michi black forest community get something but its 1 wasted uu for the rest. Why would they keep adding elephant civs when the existing ones barely use elephants. It would be a huge disaster if they add more elephant, infantry and naval civs. Hope we get atleast 2 civs that are cavalry archer, archer or gunpowder civs.

It was clearly a joke video, the least cartoonish suggestion out of the bunch is the lancer on elephant that would turn into a kamayuk upon death and it’s not really a great idea. I think any serious suggestion would have been lost among the memes.

He missed on the opportunity to suggest an archer on a horse on a camel on an elephant, though.

He has early access, I don’t know how early (or how early the DLC might be revealed). For the sake of argument, he could release a video that turns out to be a (very obtuse) clue in retrospect, and not in connection with any direct hype campaign as long as he doesn’t break the NDA. Supposing there’s a new civ with an elephant hand cannoneer, or eco elephant that helps lumberjacks, for example, the absence of those obvious things in his video could be picked up as a signal (as is already happening). Yet a joke video that specifically avoided mentioning those new units (and doesn’t purport to deal with the next DLC anyway) should in no way be capable of violating the NDA.

I don’t actually believe any of that though, just throwing another log on the bonfire of speculation for its own sake. “Best life” is pretty clearly the situation. While I think there are some good theories here, the understandable overanalysis of everything when we’re starved for concrete info reminds me of this comic:

FWIW the Southern Han did use war elephants at one point, but I don’t think that will ever make an appearance.
