New unit suggestion for ottoman

can we get Kadi for ottoman?
They will act just like imperial officials, but they will not collect taxes, they will only speed up resource collection and will only be obtainable with vizier points and the 3rd age landmark (Istanbul imperial palace)

Hello, I hope you are doing very well and regarding your post: the Ottomans do need some new unique units. I like your proposal :+1: Some time ago I also proposed adding these units:

Turkoman Cavalry

Ottoman Palace Guards

Qapukulu

The Qapukulu could have a unique technology that changes their swords for steel mace, increasing their damage to heavy armor.

Greetings.

CIVS REPRESENTATION: OTTOMANS.

Since the release of the last DLC, we have seen 2 new civs that have a lot of historical representation: The Japanese and the Byzantines.

While the Japanese have 14 unique units to represent not only types of Samurai, but their Ashigaru and even their own religions, the Byzantines are not far behind: 4 unique units and several unique Technologies to represent historical units. How is that? Let’s see:

1.- Cataphract → Heavy Cavalry place, UU
2.- Varega Guard → Heavy melee Infantry place, UU
3.- Cheirosiphon → Ram place, UU
4.- Limitanei → Spearman place, UU

5.- ########## (tr4 - p3 - z1 - tos) → Scout technology, UT (Historic Border Patrol Cavalry)
6.- Expilatores → Light Cavalry technology, UT (Historic Raider Cavalry)
7.- Numeri → Cataphract technology, UT (Historic Infantry elite Unit)
8.- Greek Fire Catapults → technology for trebuchet, UT (Historic Siege Unit)
9.- Roman Catapults in Siege Towers → Unique location in Outpoust and Keeps, UT (Historic)

As you can see, the Byzantines have 4 unique units in the sense of the game, but in reality they have 9 “unique” historical units represented thanks to unique technologies. The ########## were in fact light cavalry in charge of the edges (scouts) so it is good that they are represented as technology. The “Expilatores” were cavalry soldiers dedicated to plundering. Perhaps a better name for Numeri would be Tagmata, which was an elite Cavalry unit.

This makes sense because you can’t give unique units to any civ just because a unit has a special name, it must have a special ability or outstanding stats that make it different. And what about the Ottomans? Let’s see its current status:

Ottoman Civil - Representation - Current Status (Season 6):

1.- Janissary → Ranged gunpower infantry placement UU
2.- Great Bombard → Bombard place UU
3.- Sipahi → Light Melee Cavalry place UU
4.- Mehter → Support Extra unit UU
5.- Ottoman Galley → Extra Ship, USA
6.- Devshirme system → Military Schools in fact, UB
7.- Topçu → “Siege Crews” technology, UT
8.- Kapikulu → “Advanced Academy” technology" (Lancer and Janissaries Corp Bodyguards)

Kappikulu Süvarileri → X (Historic Elite Heavy Cavalry Corp)

Azab → X (Historic Irregular Unit of Light Infantry, especially Archers)
Akinci → X (Historic Irregular Light Cavalry, especially Horse Archers)
Deli → X (Historic Irregular Light Cavalry, Shock Troop light cavalry)
Sekban → X (Name for the irregular troops that didn’t receive training, like mercenaries or voluntaries*)

As a curious note, the Military School system represents the Devshirme System, which consists of a levy where children from conquered towns (usually Christians) were recruited and trained as soldiers in Islam in military schools.

As you can see, there is a representation of at least 7 “specific” historical units, however there could be more for the ottoman armies from 1300 to 1600, and in fact, there are ways to fill it in. Here are some suggestions:

Tip for new technologies and unique Ottoman units (02-25-2024):

8.- Kappikulu Sipahi / Silahdar → “Lancer” Replacement, with some unique ability or better stats.
9.- Azab → "Spearman/ Archer" replacement or new unit, (Maybe unlocked by Vizir Points?).
10.- Akinci → “Horse Archer”, with some abilities or stats (Maybe unlocked by Vizir Points?).
11.- Deli → Light cavalry, New Imperial unit (IV), Extra (Maybe unlocked by Vizir Points?).
12- Bashi-bazouk → Light Infantry Swordman, Extra (Maybe unlocked by Vizir Points?)
13.- Sekban → Irregular troops which do not count in the Military School System. Maybe the Akincis, Azab and Deli could be unlocked via a Unique Technology by Vizir Points?

  • The Kappikulu Suvarisi were the Elite Cavalry corps of the Ottoman Army, which also served as part of the Sultan’s bodyguard corps. There were 4 divisions, although 2 were subdivided into 2 flanks, making them 6, which gave it the name Six Divisions of Cavalry.
    clear
    – 1.- The first was the Silahdars, formed of the army soldiers with the best merits were promoted to this position.
    – 2.- The second was the Kappikulu Sipahi, formed by the sons of aristocrats and nobles. Along with Sihlandar, with full mail armor and full mail barding, they were the most powerful Ottoman cavalry.
    – 3,4.- The third was the Ulufeci, with less armour, and divided into two flanks, left and righ
    – 5,6.- The fourth was the Gharip, usually Light cavalry, necessary if the Sultan needed fast cavalry to protect him against a possible withdrawal or to make a flexible formation that required fast horses.

  • The Kappikulu Sipahi and Silahdars, again, were the best division of the Elite Cavalry Corp of the Sultan’s Army. They wore the best armor and horses, usually full mail armour, and the best melee weapons for charges and close combats. They were the rank of the army closest to the Sultan, and those who received the best prestige in times of peace, generally the administration of fiefs.

  • What was an irregular troop? For the Ottomans, they were troops that “Did not go through the Military School System”, they were mercenaries and also “Volunteers” of Islam who enlisted in the army without much preparation and using the weapons to which they were already accustomed. Among these units are the Azab, Akincis, Deli.

  • Azab.- were units of irregular light infantry, formed by Turks volunteered to fight in the army. We were usually represented as archers and polearm infantry with tirpan (scythe) or balta (halberd).

  • Akincis.- were units of irregular light cavalry, composed of former Ghazi plundering cavalry that wanted to join the Ottoman army. They were used for guerrilla tactics and to demoralize the enemy with projectiles, which is why they are usually represented as horse archers.

  • Deli.- were irregular units of cavalry, composed of young recruits exclusive from Rumelia. They were melee shock troops, who attacked the enemy without fear and even fought to the death if necessary. Due to their Romanian roots, they were recognizable for wearing costumes with decorations that simulated “animal parts” such as eagle wings shield, feathered hats, lion cheetah and deer skins capes or mantlet, and even decorated the horse with that; as well as armed with swords and spears on horseback.

  • My idea for unlock “Irregular Units” for Ottomans in AoE IV is that: Since Vizir Points are the decisions that the Vizir made at the door of his Palace, it could well be one more technology to “Unlock irregulars” to unlock Akincis, Delis, Azab and Bashi Bazouk in the barracks, archery and stables, but obviously, not in the Military Schools (for historical reasons). It would be similar to “Zhu Xi Legacy” with the Imperial Guard and the Yuan Rider. This way we would at least add variety to the use of Vizir Points, and perhaps new opportunities to "Toktapi Palace" in ranked, which is not used much currently.

As a final note.- There is another irregular extra unit which is the “Basshi Bozuk”, however I do not include it in the list because it was formed outside of the AoE IV game time, since They were formed around 1650 onwards. That unit, for example, would be good for AoE III:DE, as an exclusive Ottoman mercenary.
