most of us agree, to keep the game exciting, new content is a must. New civs yes, but also new generic units would be key. My suggestion today: the nun.
can heal
can tame wild animals (and use against the enemy)
can collect food from the woods (nuns are good with wild plants / food)
can convert only units with animals (like the taming bullet point)
Advantages of my suggestion:
there are only 2 female units so far, non of them generic (except vils). We would increase the amount by 50%
there is only one generic unit out of the temple, which is a shame
many nice videos from softl and others to be excpected
Those advantages dont cover any gameplay aspects. Being a girl power and sensitivity based unit doesnt fly if nobody wants to use it. Sure gathering food from trees could be strong but why would I convert animals most of which Ive devoured by now before shifting to farm eco.
i was talking about wild animals, not tame animals, i.e. wulfs, lions etc. On some maps, this can be very strong, think of gold rush. it would be good though to have this ability in feudal age, so that might be a bit challenging to balance
The game needs first more content expansion, like we got with the Victors and Vanquished DLC.
An insertion of previous editor units should have priority. I would be in favor of permanently adding such special units to the civs, so that we can also use them in Skirmish maps.
The addition of previous and new special units has clearly more priority.
The game already has too many general units and this makes the game unpleasant to play.
The terms monks can refer to practioners of multiple faiths not every civilization has monks historically but it makes sense as a catch all term. Nuns are exclusive to catholism.
Warrior Priests can heal and carry relics, but are not healing specialists; they cannot heal faster than Monks (except when Fereters is researched) and instead are faster, tankier and can attack, none of which are implied in Demiser’s idea which instead suggests a much superior capacity for healing with the addition of a unique “overheal” ability.
Monks did produce food too. Cheese, wine, beer… many products came from abbeys, often of a good quality. Even today, if you grab some “abbey beer” you can make sure it won’t be some low-grade industrial product.
Thats also the point of this, and many more units that I think should be added to the game.
We do probably not need more units of vast use such as knights or crossbows. But we would need more niche units. Why?
They do not make the game more complicated for Newbees as they are seldom used
They do bring a lot of new content and analytics videos for sotl and co.
They give some options for very specific game situations. The nun would be fore maps with many wild animals or in ages where there is only wood left, and food is expensive.
I would propose we would add quite a couple of this niche units, ESPECIALLY to keep the game interesting for many years to come
I am thinking here to the previously often unused editor special units of the different civs. I would like to see these units as well as in the civs Overview map and for permanent play in Campaigns, Singleplayer scenarios and Skirmish.
This is a good input, you mean apparently economic units with niche units. This would further refine the game, because we already have many units from the war selection in the pool, as well as unused in the editor and active ingame.
Yes, niche units would be good for the game, because they would enrich the content.
I agree and I hope, that the future path goes in this direction.
