New update causes game crashes after 20 Minutes of normal gameplay

  • Game Version: Premium

  • Build Number: v.100.18.54786.0 (569074R)

  • Platform: Steam

  • Operating System: Windows 11

Issue: Ever since Minor Update 18.54786, my game now crashes after 20 minutes of standard play

Exactly as it says. You’ll just be playing the game normally under different circumstances each time and boom, you get sent to bugsplat. It’s not exactly 20 minutes, but around there. It varies a few minutes each time, but it’ll just happen. This issue occurs in the same manner as the previously reported crashes from the Immortal Pillars update.

I have gone ahead and went through the troubleshooting steps you guys sent me the last 3 times, so no need to send it again. I can confirm after updating drivers, turning on and off stuff in all fashions, running repairs, that it still crashes.

Trigger Event: Unknown

This issue is identical to the one that was present during update following the release of Immortal Pillars. That issue effected all Core Ultra CPU users and was eventually fixed as a side effect of another change. Both times, these issues started was when they released changes due to the PS5 version of the game. Not really sure if there is a correlation to PS5 there, just noticing things.

Repro Steps:

  1. Open up the game on my computer.
  2. Play a match.
  3. Randomly crash at a different time, location, and pantheon each time. Usually you’ll be able to at least reach age III before that happens.

After this post I will be doing you the great favor of causing more crashes in my game and submitting them via bugsplat with the message “Bug report from Whatnot Awot”.

I have the same exact problem, both with Skirmish and Campaign. I also have a Core Ultra CPU and crash after 15-20 mins regardless of game mod. I am spamming BugSplat reports at this point.

Thanks for replying with this! I wasn’t sure if I was pointing fingers at old ghosts and didn’t want to disturb the previous people to confirm as I am not aware on whether or not they are in the community. The more people that speak up, the better as the last issue went 2 months unresolved until I submitted a decent amount of people as evidence it was an issue.

I went ahead and updated my steam discussion post, and thanks for posting on reddit this time for me, as last time I fished no responses.

I have the exact same everything, so don’t need to start another thread. Specs for me are below:

     Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 19045) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)
           Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) Ultra 7 265K (20 CPUs), ~3.9GHz
      DirectX Version: DirectX 12
   DirectX Database Version: 1.7.6
       DxDiag Version: 10.00.19041.5794 64bit Unicode

Card name: AMD Radeon RX 6800
    Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
      Current Mode: 2560 x 1440 (32 bit) (60Hz)

Same problem. My game never crashed before this update,so I think the update is the reason of the crash.

Same on my side . Since the last update, whenever i play campaign or mythic battles especially when i’m preparing my troops for a big fight. The game crashes with an error report every single time during combat. In campaign mode i have to save all the time , but during battles it’s really annoying.

I have been playing a lot in the last two weeks with my friends, and my game is continuously crashing. I have used every video and reddit thread i could find to try and fix the issue. None of my friends are crashing, maybe six of us. I have significantly more hours in the game and have seen people talk about a memory leak. Its extremely frustrating as i just want to enjoy the game but I can even get through the gauntlet mode cause I lose a life each time I crash. Posting here to show the issue and hopefully get a fix.

The issues for me have gone away in this update 18.56738, thank you for fixing it so quickly Age of Empires.

I hope it does not return again, since this gave me a scare as the last time we went 2 months without our beloved Age of Mythology.
