In fact, brand new profile icons were added 4 days ago, but only now was I able to play AoE 3. Below are screenshots showing the new weekly profile icons:
I see a whole lot of new beautiful icons. I have the impression that some of them may be completely new icons (currently not available in the game) - could it be a small preview of the new DLC?

Which ones are actually new? There are a few I don’t recognise but I havent played all historical battles.
They’ve added 140 new icons accordingly to recent patchnotes. TBH I haven’t checked it out yet lol. I still have a couple of maps I haven’t played on lol. There’s so much new stuff.
It feels like brand new African and European icons have been added - but unfortunately I’m not sure.
they were, quite many are african, there are few european ones ofc, but not quite as many, most euro ones are from KotM expansion event

there are couple new ones with KotM like icon art that weren’t there before this patch, like 20 new african ones, multiple wild animal ones, like beluga for example, and some already existing portraits from ingame that haven’t been usable as icons yet, also about 10 native american and 10 asian icons, personally i’m simply glad i can finally get black rider as the icon
I doubt it’s anything other than baseline expansion of the profile icon pool.
In recent big update there’s nothing about anything like that:

Also the seal is new? Don’t think there’s a map with seals on it as of yet?
I wonder what this special event could be. With Gamescome coming soon, I think this could be a preview of the new DLCs (smaller DLC and bigger DLC) for AoE 3.
that’s an ambushing shongo thrower which is a treasure guardian on some African maps
Most of the special events are not special- winter event, Easter event, Halloween event, summer event etc.
But there’s a 2 year anniversary of AoE 3DE in October. Besides that, they haven’t hinted anything.
What could be special in September?
Why would there be something in September?
That event is not marked as one coming out/prepared for September. Previously some things like new civs, expansions or systems have been ‘announced’ as upcoming in patch notes for many months.
September 6th 1522, Elcano arrives to Spain after 1st circunnavigation to the globe. It would be awesome a huge event of that with new maps🤩
It’s the a Special Event This means that there are new historical battles and campaigns, heroic units, new units and new revolutionary countries, and personal data icons may still appear
I never saw that one
I think the special event is either one that has past rewards for those that missed them or an AoMDE-themed one to build hype.
