Yes, I know it’s a DLC for Age of Mythology, but since it’s a game in the Age franchise, we could share our opinions on several aspects of this neighboring game for the Japanese, compared to our game.
Perhaps our game could be helped if the developers share models or units, for better historical representation, or even to request new unique units.
Apparently, they’re going to share Composite Siege Crossbows with the Chinese, historically correct.
On second thought, wouldn’t it also be nice to give this shared unit to the Chinese, Japanese, and Mongols in AoE IV as a replacement for the Springald?
For now, the Springald replaces its role in the Chinese, but they could give it a different skin. At least they’ve done so to separate the names of Knights and Lancers in the heavy cavalry.
Those who have read me frequently will know that I always take the opportunity to request a unique wall design for the Japanese. And now they have them, but in Age of Mythology Retold.
Please: “Give the Japanese uniquely designed walls in AoE IV”, please.
But, this game is being developed by people who think Paiks, the Delhi tech that gives Crossbowmen and Archers 0.5 more range, is a good idea. Care to even consider how many people out of the playerbase can even perceive such a “tech” in play?
They’ve entirely taken the gameplay-only route, unfortunately. It’s a damn fuckin shame.
i mean it’s the same people who gave western jousting lances to mongols and indians. people with 0 idea about what made the franchise great. zero idea what was good or what was bad. players were waiting for like a year to be able to change their player color and took it as a win when they managed to convince the devs to do it lol. just imagine that
Since this is a topic of discussion, I wanted to ask:
How do you think PAIKS is misrepresented?
Because as far as I know, the Paiks system was a system of infantry recruitment, primarily archers, which later also shifted to using crossbowmen, in several Indian kingdoms, including the Delhi Sultanate, so I assumed it was well represented.
Which is great. So, with even more enthusiasm, I’ll continue suggesting Ashigaru Gunner with Tanegashima arquebuses and unique walls for Japanese people.
I was not stating that it was being misrepresented. I was pointing out that they spent time and energy to develop something that is essentially meaningless. Consider what the mechanic does and how much of the populace would have ever asked for such a thing.
What degree of the playerbase can even feel such a mechanic? The point I am making is that it simply does nothing fun or interesting for the vast, overwhelming majority of players and that it is designed from the perspective of someone who sits at Conqueror level hyperfixated at microdetails instead of the top down macro approach of aesthetics and feel of the game from an immersive and experience point of view.
Next: House of Wisdom new technology “Delhi +1” adds 0.005% resource gather speed. Peak game.
I think you’re overestimating the playerbase. I like the details of Paiks; they add flavor to the game.
In fact, the one who would be obsessed with such a tiny detail would be you. Most people are just happy about it or don’t care, but they don’t seek to compare themselves or call others “Conquerors level hyperfixated on microdetails” to look down on those who don’t think like you because it doesn’t bring you any joy.
And what you’re proposing about Delhi+1, i know is a example, but if it would supports something historically correct, I’ll be happy about it. And If it’s balancing something for the better, more happy aggain.
But looking for a contradiction in everything or seeking conflict with the happiness of others for microdetails is rather sad.
You’re straight up misunderstanding me. I don’t mind the flavour of its name or what it means in relation to history. That is hardly what they spent time on.
They spent time on designing a mechanic for a technology that does nothing meaningful whatsoever for anyone but the very top. The point I am making is that the designers are primarily focused on meaningless drivel of gameplay instead of things that actually add to the experience for the majority.
It isn’t meaningless, it means one more row of ranged units can fire when you are at the limit of their range and have formed a full concave around your target. Half a tile for ranged units seems small but has an over sized impact in mass engagements. It synergizes extremely well with their high wood eco + ToV landmark.
It’s also 1 of 6 upgrades, the other 5 are insanely good. When compared it can feel small, but it’s all about strategy and timing (since the techs take so long).
Similar effects can be seen with the Imperial age (1000 res cost) KT upgrade that increases xbow range by .5 as well. (Albeit with +2 to damage, but the range is why it’s so good)
