No Preorder Discount for AOE4 but AOE3 and AOE2 have it?

What is this treatment?

Whats the point of Pre Order if there is no Benefits? is this intentional?

Both AOE2 DLC and AOE3 have the 15% discount for preorders

This is very unfair treatment for AOE4 Players

I suppose they do it in October, shortly before the DLC is released…

They had a discount because they went live before Activision took over. From now on no more discounts for pre-order. Also the sale prices are not as reduced as before.

No discount, no preorder buying because there is no incentive to buy the DLC. Also the regional pricing is very bad.

As I’ve repeatedly pointed out in my other posts, they simply don’t care about what the player base wants anymore. The company is solely focused on making money.

Agreed. I think its because we don’t get an open beta to check it out like we did for 3. I honestly would probably buy it if they let me try it out like we did for 3.

This might be a hot take but I think preorder discounts are bad.

When you buy after release you actually know what you are getting, you can read reviews and see what issues other people report. When preordering you can hope that a few selected people got access before release and that they actually made good reviews.

Preorder discounts, or even worse preorder exclusive content forces you to buy a game you don’t know yet if it’s good. I don’t think you can refund DLC on Steam either.

This makes no sense. The players buy the game, without the players there is no money to be made.

Going against the players interest is the most stupid marketing decision ever.

Yeah I didn’t mind preordering the AoE3 DLC because we could actually test out most of it before release. I wish it was always that way.

It’s simple. TVS and TBP pre-orders released before the Activision reorg. RotN is releasing after. New controlling studio, new policies.

How could not having a pre-order discount possibly be in the player’s best interest?

  1. I literally wrote that in my post
  2. I called them stupid for not doing what players want, not implying that they are doing what players want

We can only speculate, but my hypothesis is that this is the psychology they’re applying:

  • 1).- They think we’re so desperate and addicted that we’ll buy the pre-order DLC—even without a discount—just to show our strong support for the company, or simply because we have a compulsive buying habit.

  • 2).- It’s a social experiment to see how many people buy the DLC without discount: They know many of us will buy it after launch—even without a discount—and that some will rush to get it immediately because they think the new civs will be Broken the first days of the expansions. So, they want to test how many people skip the purchase due to the lack of a discount, how many buy it anyway (like with previous DLCs), and how many stop playing because of the price hike. Based on the results, they might consider offering pre-order discounts in future expansions… orr they might get even more devious with prices.

The problem with that approach is that they chose the worst possible time to do it:

  • It’s already public knowledge that they’ve changed leadership, so people are worried the product quality will suffer.
  • There’s an established tradition in the franchise of offering pre-order discounts for new DLCs. It’s odd that they’ve chosen not to discount this one.
  • There’s a strong sense of community here; many players “main” only one or two civilizations, so they’re unlikely to buy the DLC if they aren’t interested in playing the new civs or if they feel the price is too high.

People are already on edge due to layoffs and the current state of the console and video game industries. Another controversy isn’t going to trigger compulsive buying; quite the opposite. Many people are currently weighing which games to buy—or skip—this year and next, and a lot of players are moving away from buying consoles because services like Game Pass have become too expensive.

I realized it a little late, sorry

Prices are bugged maybe?
