Nomad maps not predictable (e.g,. Bogland). Add Nomad as option in Lobby?

Game forces ‘Nomad’ and ‘Treaty’ on you for certain maps, like Bogland, with no forewarning or indication. BUGS. I’ve wondered for a while why Bogland (and at least a couple other maps, I think) keeps forcing Nomad on me. BUG. (Plus the short treaty even though “Treaty: None” is selected in Lobby. Another BUG.)

Proposed solution to fix the Nomad bug:

  • Could “Nomad” just be made an option in the Lobby’s ‘Game Settings’ checkbox list that is toggleable for any map you want? I don’t think Nomad should be restricted by map choice, nor should it be forced upon you by map choice. I sometimes start games and have to quit and make new game with different map because I don’t want to play Nomad. I’d like the option for it, though, since there are times when I do want it… and would want it for a map of my choosing… not just the ones we’re currently restricted to.

is the foot icon on map selection screen supposed to be a Nomad designation? Like for like Steppe, Africa Clearing, Nile Delta, and Mountain Pass?

… If so, Bogland doesn’t have feet. So no way to predict it’d be Nomad:

…Then again, I just did a checkbox search for Nomad, and all these and more got highlighted, yet several don’t have feet. And if I try some of them, at least some are actually not Nomad. So it’s all confusing. Either properly mark Nomad maps as actually being Nomad by adding proper icons to them and fix the checkbox selections, or do the fix I implemented. Hopefully the latter.

I have no idea how to predict Nomad maps, and would just prefer to choose it in lobby as a checkbox toggle.

Here’s the steps to reproduce the issue:

  1. Single-player > Skirmish
  2. Pick “Bogland” map
  3. Pick “Treaty: None”
  4. Launch match

:arrow_forward: EXPECTED RESULT

  • Game should not force game modes on you that you didn’t pick from lobby screen.
I have “None” selected for Treaty Length, and picked Bogland

In AoE2:HD, I think it was easy to avoid Nomad maps.

Bogland + Treaty Length “None”

Notice match starts as ‘Nomad’ and there is treaty box around enemy TC (upper-left):

Game Settings screen as seen in match, confirming Lobby choices including “Bogland” and “Treaty Length: 0 Minutes”

In AoE2:HD, I think this was the only Nomad map. If so, it was easy to avoid:

Does this really need to be in the Report a Bug section? As irritating as it is, Nomad settings causing a short treaty is intentional behavior. The Treaty section just affects a normal treaty.

Yes, it does

The bug is Nomad being forced upon us for no reason. A secondary (non-primary for my thread’s purposes) bug is that treaty being forced upon us even though None is selected in lobby. (I don’t want to spend time making a completely separate thread just for treaty, since they’re so highly related here.) Updated my OP for bug clarity

If the game delivers things to you that are contrary to what is telegraphed to you from the UI, then it’s a bug.

If it’s an annoyance to you, then you’re welcome that I filed this bug report. In the end, I hope it becomes less annoying to you if it ever gets fixed (a future “you’re welcome” for that)

I did not realize that there was a bug causing maps to start with Nomad settings, and that that was what you were referring to. Your post wasn’t really clear and concise, giving the impression that you had simply posted in the wrong section.

I’m sorry it was unclear before. Thank you for bringing it to my attention in a roundabout way

Why do you have maps Ctr monsoon, Ctr Pyramid descent, and all the BR maps in the standard map folder (And where are African clearing and Acropolis )?
All those map shoud be in “Custom” map style , not in “Standard”

I’m pretty sure this is causing the issue

I think that selection tool is a little wonky. When I look today, some maps were highlighted even though no selection on right… then I selected Nomad, de-selected, and re-selected it, and only foot icon maps are showing up. So maybe it fixed itself w/ respect to that, or the UI is just finicky with how it works:

I’m not sure. EDIT: Actually, could they be showing up because “Show Suggested Maps” is de-selected in OP?

In general, the UI is a little non-intuitive and unpredictable unless you sit down for a couple minutes experimenting, imo. Even if you think you got it figured out, the screen might not show you correct results unless you toggle on/off/on sometimes, I think. I don’t click the checkboxes often, though, so I’m no expert on them.

Even the Mods subscription list page is a little wonky, though, so I think part of the issues with checkbox lists in the game like this is just how the game was made. Maybe it’s not possible to have screens like this work 100% well in an older game – particularly checkbox lists and it refreshing content correctly

Yeah toggling On/Off “Show Suggested Maps” makes everything “bug” on my computer too (Suddently you can have maps that you didn’t selected apeearing from there )
I was not able to reproduce your exact bug tho
Bogland start is a normal start, if you want treaty you can have one , if you don’t want to you can remove it

Yeah if you just left click on a map it will add that map to the selection, so yeah you can have that
