No composition norse can make can beat egyption half spear half axe on equal res in classical. and you never have equal res to spend because egyption empowerment and not having to spend wood on houses and temple.
Even worse when you add in myth units because axemen hard counter hersir and kill them before they can even reach the myth units.

No, it is norse’s best option but pure throwing axemen lose because of their low hp and axemen have a 5x multiplier against them.
If you are being attacked by this composition: Use Walls (or berserk in chokepoints)+ Throwing axemen
If you are attacking and opponent defends with this composition: Use Raiding cavalry and target laborers where you can and run from the spearmen.
Continue fighting/raiding until you’ve earned enough favour to train Myth units. Myth units do win against this composition, just be prepared to support your myths with Raiding cavs who should dive enemy priests to protect the myth units.
Remember that mapcontrol is a part of the balance in RTS games as well and Norse Excel particularly in that area, while Egyptians are a bit more limited, focusing on defense. Keep some Berserks and Throwing Axemen at home and raid, scout and deny Obelisks with Raiding Cavs. Once you forced their army home to defend, send your infantry out and build some additional TC’s and win the macrogame. Just keep in mind that if opponent go Ptah, they have access to Shifting Sands every so often.
It’s a tricky matchup but not impossible, hope this helps.
Is it really this hard? I thought with a bit of kiting Throwing axemen can take them on easily. Although im not a good player at all though.
I only play norse and i struggle mostly against toxotes spam.
Try using units that aren’t classified as infantry.
It’s going to be a tough fight anyway, and you’ll need micro.
I agree that Egyptians are hard to deal with when playing as Norsemen, it’s like the axe thrower doesn’t do enough damage to justify using it. Maybe buff the multiplier from 3x to 4x.
Even with micro, Norse axe throwers seem to be bad.
We tend to forget that norse have an “archer” in the form of ballista. They are very good vs infantry, and have a great range.
So heroic age you can tank with jarl, and when they pick horus in mythic you can add ballista.
Yeah they are pretty handy in mythic age.
Unfortunately I rarely reach mythic in team games. Either some1 leaves early or gets desynced. sad
this is skill issue my guy. Throwing axemen destroy spearman and axeman. make raiders, raid their gold, put on the pressure until they are forced to stop prolonging classic and go heroic, go heroic too and end the game with fiery weapons
