Hello friends, often playing Norse, second in 2v2/3v3 or + games, which is the best god to choose? And why? both in terms of divine powers and units and upgrades. A thousand thanks.
The pros seem in general agreement that Odin is the strongest, he most definetly is the easiest to execute.
You have access to Heimdal (20% faster working TCs) and Njord(god power both currently among the best gods you can pick, but also freya for if you wanna do some more classical age focused harssment strategy or to boost your late game cav.
Generally Odin has a lot of things going for him that are always boosting you, unlike more situational buffs other gods get and you have to find a way to make use of. Hunting bonus is always gonna help your economy, the free scouting from 2 ravens means you have possibly the best scouting in the game for no cost. What I really wanna stress is just how versatile these bonuses are, you can adjust your build to both the allies you have and enemies you face with no downside.
Loki is generally pushed towards Hersier, Thor needs to get those upgrades and get them early to get any real benefit out of his bonuses, meanwhile Odin can do whatever he wants simply because of his hunting bonus making you just that extra bit stronger than the other norse gods.
Thats on top of boosting your cavalary, which you almost always want to build, with regeneration making raiding that extra bit easier. You also have possibly the strongest norse cav if we ignore end game max upgrade Thor and even then its close through having access to Freya and Njord.
Only real argument I could see against picking another norse god over odin is if your friend likes to play defensive and has the DLC then Freyer is certainly an option.
If your friend rather plays defensively and owns the DLC there is also Freyer, who currently mainly stands out for having an absolutley busted god power and the ability to build fortresses an age earlier than anyone else, which has a quality all of its own, but ultimately I don’t think he comes close to Odin.
n fact I’m using Odin, and yes the power of the great hunt helps you at the beginning. However, I am a player who plays a bit defensively. So you say Freyer is better?
I would consider him most definetly worthy of consideration as his bonuses actually benefit defensive play.
However, I have to stress that he comes with the caveat of being simply much harder to play.
Dealing with completly different research timings isn’t a skill that translates for other gods, so you learn Freyer to play Freyer, not just norse in general. If you want that defensive Norse playstyle you probably can’t do any better than Freyer, but if you gonna play more casually you will find more success with Odin, even if you are utilizing him suboptimally by being defensive as Norse.
I should also mention that technically thor has some potential as the strongest economic god, but he is simply not in a spot where I would recommend learning him. His free dwarves are just to gimicky right now, while he does have pay off for playing defensively (extra tier of armor upgrades + ragnarok + flaming weapon making you near unstoppable) I just dont think he has the tools to reliably get there, unlike Freyer.
Unless you are at the very top it doesn’t really matter if the God you choose is currently a little better then the others.
Your skill has a way higher impact on the results then the current balance.
Use whatever god fits best to your play style. Try all of them out.
